Indian Cricket League

I just heard about this for the first time in the paper today, with Shane Warne apprently set to sign on with the league. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says there are like 5 or 6 teams participating in it. Does anyone know the teams. And what does this do to Indian cricket as a whole?

This is a parallel cricket body ..which has nothing to do with ICC or BCCI (Indian board)..

This has been setup by Zee TV of India and they have signed Kapil Dev as the Chairman, Kiran More is also a senior member..

Other involved are Dean Jones and few other major names..but all these are part of the administration..

The most prized catch was Brian Lara, he signed couple of days back and would be captain of one of the teams..now you are telling me that Shane Warne would be joining in...this means that they are going big time..

Looks like ICL has opened up a new vista for retired cricketers.

Cricket is big bucks in India. Although Zee Sports say that the primary aim of ICL is to develop young talent, i think its also for the big money theyre gonna make... Still its a very brave move

The ICL will organize the first 20/20 tournament in Sept/oct 2007. The format will have six teams, consistting of four international stars (mostly retired), two Indian national level players and the remaining team will be made up from promising Indian youth players.

Besides Lara, the other names which are being touted are Warne, McGrath, Astle, Trescothick. Dennis Lillie has been approached to become the bowling consultant for the league. Each team will be coached by a person hand picked by the executive committe consisting of Kapil Dev, Kiran More, Tony Greig, Madan lal and Balwinder sandhu. Amongst the know Indian players, some of whom have been approached are: Sanjay bangar, Deep das Gupta, Ajay ratra, Amit Bhandari and quite a few others. Two Indian players who were a part of the World Cup squad are also being talked about, though the names have not yet been disclosed.

I just cant believe shane bond has joined the icl(rebel league) instead of the ipl(icc sanctioned),the guy can not represent his country and also will not be permitted from participating in any icc backed event just because of his association with this league.Imo he is the finest right-arm fast bowler the game has ever known and sadly the icl is the only place to see him in action these days.

He is better than Mcgrath, Malcolm Marshall, Waqar..etc.? .. You did say that it was your opinion, fair enough.

kiran more is one of the administrators??? HAH!
given his impeccable track record in the bcci - i mean - really now!

icl is only about money. lets be clear about that.
shubshash chandra is a businessman first, last and inbetween.
the man has to use some ploy other than this being a business venture, and also because of the ipl.
new talent - bollocks.

time will tell - that is, if icl survives.
after ipl and the big league players, who on earth would want to go and check out them yesteryears?

like i said - time will tell.
