India vs Aus in Delhi

My flight touches down at around 2:30am on the 1st of November, given this is my first time in India would it be completely insane of me to head to day four of the India vs Aus test match once I've checked in to my hotel and had a quick rest?

I assume I'd be able to get tickets at the venue as the crowds have been quite small.

Of course if the Aussies play as bad as they did in the second test I might not want to go at all!

To save you any hassles of watching Day 4, sitting through a jet lag, we may try and roll you guys twice inside 3 days.

Ok, that was a joke. So far as ticketing goes, i expect a much bigger crowd in Delhi than what showed up at Mohali, but you should still be fine as we haven't yet learnt to appreciate Test cricket.

You just gotta see how your body copes after a long haul flight i guess. I get pretty weary after my Sydney - Delhi flight but that's just me.

Yeah the crowds in Delhi will be much bigger than Mohali. But I'm pretty sure you could rock up to the 4th day and buy a ticket. It will be a Saturday so the crowds will be bigger.

Check whether the match is still on. The Aussie team is beginning to resemble the Indian team of the early 90s (Ageing stars, stubborn captain, fast bowlers that cant pick up a wicket and players gone AWOL)...

Does anyone know the exact deal with getting tickets at the ground? It's at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium - but I'm not sure which entrance to go to, what time to show up, what sort of tickets would be the best to get etc.

Having watched the Mohali test on the TV, it looks as though the ground wasn't too full, but I'm not too sure about this one.

On another note, is it simply because it's a test that the crowds have been poor? I mean, in a country of as many cricket fans as India (possibly more here than the rest of the world put together!), how on earth can a test match against Australia not be full?! Especially considering this will be one of the last times to see the Indian stars/demi-gods that are Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman etc. all play together. I'm sure ticket prices exclude some, as do working commitments, but any significant test series in the UK (with a comparatively tiny cricket watching population), would almost certainly sell out.

On the subject of getting tickets to the cricket...

I want to get some for the 1st day of the 4th test in Nagpur so i can watch some of the action of the Aussies winning the series 2-1! (wishful thinking? maybe)

here is my plans...
I arrive in Mumbai on 3 Nov at about 11pm (1st time back since i was born their 29 years ago but thats another story).
I'm making my way by train to Kanpur to visit friends, overnight train from Mumbai to Nagpur on Tuesday night and then overnight train from Nagpur to Kanpur on Wednesday night, with the cricket at Nagpur in between.

What would be the best way to get tickets? I have already tried Ticketpro

2nd question, is it far from the train station to the cricket ground at Nagpur?

India is not exactly test country...Plus the facilities in the ground are pretty poor, which prevent people making a holiday out of a test match.
An Odi is a different matter altogether and will be toe room only...

Dipydoo - I see your point about making a holiday out of a test match, but Delhi's got a population of almost 14 million, so surely there must be enough people within a reasonable distance of the stadium to just go for one day?

I am very aware that the ODIs and Twenty20s will be packed - possibly this is the problem? With IPL and ICL now, maybe there is just an overload of limited over, first class cricket.

Being a Brit, maybe I'm a bit of a traditionalist - but in my opinion, saying 'India's not a test nation', is just a way of saying that the fans can be a bit fickle . It seems as though people only want to go to matches where they can see everyone bat and bowl - India take a load of wickets and score a load of boundaries. Without wanting to sound like too much of a snob, there's a lot more to cricket than just that!

I reckon they should drop Hayden, have Hussey opening and bring back Roy (Symonds). The pressure he adds in the field makes him pretty valuable on top of batting and bowling.

I don't understand why they haven't tried out some of our younger and more talented spin bowlers and instead opted for Cameron White. They might get flogged a bit at the start, but isn't that what happened to Warne?

Is anyone else on IM planning to head down for day 4 of the Delhi test?

Locus - I think I agree with you about Hayden - his duck in the first innings of the last test wasn't what you needed from an opener!

I will be trying to make as much of the Delhi test as possible, so should be there for the 4th day. I'm afraid that I will not be cheering on Australia though - India all the way! The fact that I am British and spent a small fortune travelling half way around the world two years ago, to watch England get whitewashed in the Ashes might have something to do with that!

If you still feel like sitting near a bloody pommie, then PM me and I'll let you know my mobile number!
