Oh Cap'n, My Cap'n :)

I just noticed the Chief of Navel Affairs quip Cute!

Yes, Chief Navel, the ends justify the means in most strata of Hyper-Moneyed India. Heck, even in less moneyed strata.

I've long since perfected the art of skipping past immature comments, so am really happy to see that Mridula, Haylo, Cap'n Navel ( love that) and other mature souls in this virtual world are looking in and commenting on this.

I wonder if anyone from the media is also looking in...it would be worth their while to write a hugely publicized article about this. At least 1 page to every page devoted to The Adoration Of The Golden Boy ...

---

To those who may wonder about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...no not really. If you're wondering if TheFoolOnTheHill has ever handled a gun.

Yes, I have. In my childhood. The very first - stern - rule that was drilled into our heads was

Never Point The Gun At Another Person
- it doesn't matter whether it's loaded, no loaded, safety catch on or off, yada yada.

Just don't ever be stoooopit enough to even think you can point a gun at a person.

That's what the target practice paper/tin cup/target plastic man is for.

Is that all what you have to say ? Is this what your entire 'mature' logic boils down to, giving your own example?

You are yet to answer around 5 questions I posed in my last post, if you cannot answer them, would appreciate if you stop personal comments that you have been posting for a while now.

And saying that you do not want to answer is not an answer.

Shashank you too have no argument, only that he (Bindra Senior) didn't mean it or it is a done thing in North!

On the other hand TFOTH is trying to say how other cultures handle it. It never hurts to learn a little from others.

Just a thought for Mod's consideration.

If a thread gets 'heated', lock it temporarily until tempers cool down .

Now I am going for a bullet-proof jacket .

I am glad to accept what he is trying to say, neither I am trying to justify the statement of Bindra. But I am not accepting anyone calling him criminal because of this, you want media to criticize him, why because he is rich and made a stupid statement ? Abinav Bindra is being compared to Nanda, why because his dad made a stupid statement ?

Look at TFOTH posts and see the way the tone has changed. From where he started and where he has come.

This is the second time!

I mean who is getting heated? Shashank do you think I am causing you so much trouble that this thread should be locked? You definitely are not making me angry or anything!

So everyone else, please take it easy. This is a good old debate.

I guess, we have all being around long enough to know each other well. So cause of worries as of now.

Threads are closed when rants start and things go out of logic or get too personal, but I do not see that happening here yet.

money talks, the maid is silent

skk: Hats off to your Dad - clearly, he brought you up well.

As India reaches her 61st birthday, isn't is sad that the maid doesn't have a voice in this discussion? An investigative journalist, even if s/he tracked the maid down, may not receive the same undiluted acceptance of his/her findings from the majority of Indian viewers/readers, I guess.

I make no apologies for harping on the maid. As long as she doesn't have a voice here, and as long as Poppa Bindra's tactless comment gets too much of a blindly accepted voice, I feel lessened as a fellow human.

Now, where's the media?!

And that seems like a most sensible point of view.

Shashank, you and I need to understand TFOTH is coming from such a culture (am I right in making this assumption TFOTH?) and his initial reaction may sound to us a little extreme (Nanda comparison) particularly when it is such a historic moment.

But then pointing a gun is an extreme act (for that matter so is running your car over others in drunken haze)and the sooner we learn it in India here (and teach it to our kids too), the better.

I guess I will end up writing a blog post on this after all!

@ Mridula:
Yes, your assumption is correct in that I do come a certain culture

I call it the Culture of Humanity.

Now I'll quietly retire for a quick cuppa, along with my Miss World Peace tiara

I'll be back, naturally!
