Also Saina has won her pre quarter match. One more medal hope there.

Great news! I saw this just before on NDTV and thought that's wonderful.

Men's 10m Air Rifle for those, like me, who were wondering.

Way to go India!

Mod Note: Because two threads were started on the same subject I have merged them together. Posts are in chronological order and the title is the one of the first thread started.

Brishti, from whatever I have heard, father has pledged a 200 crore hotel in his name! This is second hand information but could be true.

Some news on Bindra junior here and they have a shooting range for him at the farm house!

In last Olympics, Rajyavardhan Rathore won a silver (2004) for India in double trap, Kannan Malleshwari won a Bronze (2000) in weight lifting and in 1996, Leander Paes got a bronze in tennis.

The last gold India won was in 1980, which was for hockey.

This is the first Gold India has ever got in Individual events.

The media coverage he is getting is unbelievable...

Experts suggest that he will now have the same endorsement power as Dhoni..

I'm laughing.

I just watched some gymnastics with Americans and Chinese and there was an Indian competing for the US.

reality check

http://olympics.timesofindia.indiati...ow/3353590.cms

Apologies for being the wet blanket. Yes it's fabulous that India has one - one! - gold medal.

However.

Keep in mind that the winner comes from a very, very affluent family. Business father in Chandigarh, private firing practice range built at home by Pappa. Chauffeur driven Merc to collect him after the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna - while his teammates waiting for the team bus to collect them in the rain ( acc. to today's ToIlet Paper of India anyway, trying to find the link).

What shocks me is the alacrity with which the English newspapers 'report' how a young Abhinav fired an empty bottle off the *head of their servant maid* a la William Tell ... and hit the bottle. If he hadn't hit the bottle, and hit the maid instead, it would well have been kept hush hush I imagine.

I'd like to see a youtube interview of the maid!

Again, sorry to rain on the parade but sometimes, the other side of the coin is well worth knowing.
