The Akhada system of physical training is quite ancient and sparesely prevalent. If that is brought to world standards then we can get back in the wrestling map of the world.

Jitendra's bout will begin in a short while from now! I would be refreshing the Beijing Olympics official page quite a lot.

I can see from the official page that the bout is running now!

So Jitendra lost 11-15! Maybe Vijendra will be third time lucky?

well, you should have seen the scenes on the streets when the boxing match was on. It was like critical moments of a cricket match. All of them were glued to TV set, wherever there was one. And I was surprised that people actually knew the technicalities to the detail, you only expect in cricket.

What a great day for Indian sport, and India won a cricket match too and no one wants to talk about it.

I like underdogs.... to me, this guy beats the shooter.

The celebrations will continue for a while, but a peek into the everyday lives of the country’s second medallist at the Games shows he had to battle a lot more than his opponents in Beijing. Squeezed into tiny rooms at the stadium’s residential facility, with rats, cockroaches and cobwebs for company, the conditions are not really conducive to breed a champion. But for these men, it’s just a way of life.

Sumit, one of the wrestlers who bunks in the same room as Sushil, proudly points out his now famous colleague’s mattress among nine others in the small room.

With this medal, we hope our needs are better looked after than before. Here, there are 20 people to a room with two people to a bed. Not all rooms have coolers like ours, and we have to share the space with rats and other animals. Here, there’s room for everybody,” laughs Arvind, another inmate cheerfully resigned to the conditions.

For their food and lodging, they pay a sum of Rs 1000-1500,

Right from filling water-coolers to sweating it out in wrestling halls with not even air-cooling facilities, it was tough for them

I saw it on the TV yesterday, and they were like 20 guys living in a 200 square feet room. It was really appalling site. No can imagine that an Olympic champion can be groomed there. And we are talking about Delhi here, forget about lesser places in the country.

I would not even groom my pet dog in those rooms, and they are allegedly grooming world champions.

And that, for those who didn't know, is the real reason India does poorly.

I say the article in the Indian Express in the morning that captain has quoted. And I have experienced some of this first hand in the state level camps!

I too consider Sushil and Vijender such big heroes because of the odds they have faced.
