Formula One Track In Delhi

Apparently, there is going to be a formula one track in Delhi, with a race being run there as soon as 2009. Anymore news/thoughts/comments on this?

I hear that Albert Park in Melbourne would lose out if Delhi gets the track. Hmmmm. I'd rather it in Delhi than Melbourne. I go to Delhi more often.

It'll be three years at the least before F1 comes to Delhi. Indian liquor baron Vijay Mallya has just purchased a F1 team Spyker and now plans to use that as a springboard for bringing F1 to India.

F1 boss Bernie Eccelstone is rumored to be interested as well and this week a famous F1 track designer is scouting for possible sites around Delhi.

All said and done, a lot more is needed before the F1 circus comes to town. Delhi doesn't even have half the rooms that F1 needs in whatever city it visits. The plans to add more rooms for the Commonwealth Games are still just ink, so I personally am not THAT confident of an Indian Grand Prix anytime before 2012 - and I am being optimistic.
