football

Hi guys,

I leave for India on Friday....result!! Unfortuanely i'm not sure i can go 3 weeks without any footbal, particularly when theres an England game on and we're getting to the business end of the season (Arsenal Fan)!!

I have consulted my itinerary and I will be in Agra for the England V Ukraine WC qualifier, can anyone advise where this would likely be shown?

Ill be in Jodphur for the 1st leg against Villareal and Palolem beach for the 2nd leg. i'll also be in Mumbai for the FA cup semi against Chelsea.

If anyone could advise on some good bars to watch these games i'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance

You may have to watch some of the games in your hotel room, as long as the TV gets the right channels. (I can't remember ever seeing an International in India)

'Ten Sports' and 'ESPN' show most games, though they select single games when there are a group of games being played at the same time, but there are often 2 games being shown on 2 different channels.

Most Rs500+ hotel rooms will have these channels, though searching for them will be fun, there will be maybe 70+ channels, and in India all these channels have a different volume setting, and some are very very loud, write down the chanel numbers when you find them.

The 2 main problems you'll have are.....

Kick-off times (01:15 for 19:45 kick-offs)

Match choice, Man Utd are playing at the same time as Arsenal's Villareal match, and Man U (& L/pool) are more popular in Asia.

Is the Ukraine match on a Wednesday?

If so, you'll not find a bar showing it in Agra because of the kick-off time, it will be the same in Jodhpur.

Palolem won't be a problem (unless they choose to show the Man U game), there are at least 2 places, one on the beach (as you get to the beach, turn left, walk along the beach for about 2-300 metres, there's a bar there with big advertisements for some American beer, it has 3 TV's and always advertises that it's showing live football)

The other place is on the road to the beach, but it's easier to give directions coming the other way, so....from the beach, walk away from the beach till the road turns to the right (where the buses wait), turn right, continue walking for about 200m and you'll see a bar with a pool table on your right, they also show the football, but this place is less likely to stay open for the late kick-off, they also have ridiculous prices, Rs50 for 15 minutes of Pool, though you can get them down to Rs150 for an hour, that's about £2.50 an hour, their beer isn't cheap either, try the beach place first.

Because of the kick-off time, you should be OK in Mumbai, there are a few sports bars, but you'll have to do a google search to find them, or maybe a local will know somewhere.

Sage-like advice from Steven Ber.
I do fancy Arsenal, but I think all eyes (and broadcasting) will be on ManU/Liverpool for the tail end of the EPL. Early kick-offs are well timed for a lazy Sat/Sunday evening.

Should be fun. Enjoy!
