Most Hotels that offer rooms with TV have cable these days and most cable networks carry ESPN/Star sport and or Ten Sport.
All of these channels carry live premiership action as well as Euro football for all you insomniacs, so keeping up with the reds shouldn't present a problem also many bars and restaurants have a TV where with a little persuasion you can watch the footi over a meal and a pint! |

Nothing wrong with the question, you're not the only addict out there!
![]() Whenever there is a big game (or even a less important one) I tend to book a room with cable TV. It is THE PERFECT getaway from India for a while - something I'm sure anyone traveling for a long time needs now and then. You will have to pay more for a room with cable TV though, obviously. If you want a room with a TV for the sole purpose of watching football, be sure to actually turn on the TV and flip through all the channels to see that they have ESPN/StarSports before you accept the room! Sometimes I have had to manually tune in the channels myself! (And you think you need your fix badly... ) You can check the schedules of these channels on the internet at www.startv.com About a month ago I went to see a live match in Calcutta at the Salt Lake Stadium between East Bengal and another local team playing in the National Football League. It was good quality, and cheap! The stadium is huge! (And getting there was half the fun...) ![]() PS. I'm rooting for Liverpool myself in the final... |

Check out the official website of the All India Football Federation , it has a fixture list. It seems that the league starts in January and ends before the monsoon comes. Here you will also find a list of the teams and match venues. Another good idea is to check local newspapers for sports events.

The World Cup was on when I was in India last and I didn't miss any England matches. The most memorable one was watching the England v France opening game in a Tibetan monastery, of all places.
Spent a lot of the match trying to convince the monks that David Beckham really does earn hundreds of thousands of pounds every week. A good laugh. My explanation of the off-side rule was equally incomprehensible. ![]()

by the way, if its just star sports and espn you want then don't go to the main star website, go to www.espnstar.com
I've done the checking of channels in the room before commiting to the room. When I haven't then I usually later find one is missing, ie the one you actually wanted. |
