bexta,

Good that you want to come and cheer for Aus...or will you cheers for India (Wafers/cold-drinks on me if you do.. )

Different cities have different level of difficulty. one is to get the ticket and the second is on the day of the match to gain entry and get a proper place, at some places you have to go and stand in the queue as the day breaks. (this for the one dayer)

I will only comment on place where I have seen a cricket one dayer. For the test match normally it is very easy and you can enter as you wish, even tickets are easy to get.

Calcutta - Eden Gargen: organised and easy to get ticket 3/4weeks in advance

Mumbai -Vankhede : organised and got the tickets 3/4 in advance
(there is another smaller stadium - no information)

Delhi : un-organised and difficult (as capacity of delhi stadium is low and demand is high)

My exp. in Chandigarh (when Mohali was not there ) : Very difficult to get ticket and on top of that to enter the stadium, really un-organised.

Mohali near Chandigarh is Organised and easy to get 2 weeks in advance

Suggest : You should buy a month or so in advance and be prepared for anything on the day.

Also depends what class of tickets you want.. all the above information is for lower or middle class tickets (as a student thats what I could afford )

Thumbs up thank u

thanks ashish

I'll certainly be hoping india cricketers score 100's and bowl well, appreciate good sportsman, whatever their nationality.
looks like the indian cricket wish to play in;
dehli
bangalore
nagpur
kanpur
of cousre aus would prefer more 'test standard' pitches, with all due respect to the last 2 cities.
iit will only be test matches so i'll see you in dehli

Howdy Peeps...

I'm also looking to head off to a match. What is the general idea if it's a possibility?:

I fly into Mumbai (first time) on the 04 Nov, the test in Mumbai stars on the 3rd. Do you think it will be easy or difficult to get a ticket and head out on the 3rd or 4th day of the test match?

I'm really keen to go but unsure if the date I arrive will be leaving me enough time to organise it all and let's not forget the fact I'm an India first timer, so I might be a tad bit disorientated.

What you think?

Getting test match tickets genrally is no problem (it gets a little crowded on the weekends and last day of the match still the stadium is at the most 80% full). Even a day's ticket is available which is what I prefer.

Sure we will meet-up if you happen to be in Delhi/North India as I may go to watch cricket for a day.

A word of caution : Delhi pitch is okey but stadium is small,

If by 'test standard' pitch you mean fast/grassy/bouncy as in Australia, I don't think that has happened still (despite the best efforts of Kapil Dev).

IMO the best pitches/stadiums in India are (in the order)
Mohali (near Chandigarh)
Calcutta (eden garden)
Mumbai (Vankhede)
Bangalore
even no five will not be Delhi

Teacozie,

1. Are you sure the match in Mumbai will be the one starting on 3rd Nov.?
2. your getting the ticket on day three/four of the match (which is not a weekend) is a good possibility. But your being new to India and obviously being a bit disoriented is a bigger problem...So I suggest be on the site and make contact with a IMer in Mumbai who can be of help. All the best!

Hey Ashish,

I'm pretty sure the match in Mumbai will starting on the 3rd of Novemeber. The dates of the test is this as I understand it:

Date Match Venue
==== ===== =====
September
Sep 30 - Oct 2 v Board President's XI Hyderabad

October
6-10 1st Test Bangalore
14-18 2nd Test Chennai
26-30 3rd Test Nagpur

November
3-7 4th Test Mumbai

Your right though, I don't think obtaining a ticket and what have you is the problem.. it will be the fact that I'm probably not going to know the right side of up as I will have only been in the country for a day or so. Perhaps I'll need to arrange it so I arrive earlier... what do you mean about making contact with a IMer in Mumbai though? What do you mean by IMer??

And your also right Kate, the Aussie may have them on the ropes... but knowing the Indians it will be the other way around!

Teacozie,

Thanks for the schedule..so sad that nothing is given to Delhi/North India

by IMer, I mean an "IndiaMike member" or it can someone else you know in Mumbai who would help you with the directions/tips...and ofcourse some comfort of talking to someone you know. Also suggest you read as much as you can on this forum and ask whaterever ?s that you may have

Ya Kate and Teacozie, you can never know 'bout the Indians they can beat the best side

All the best to you for your India Travel and to your team.

Yep India should have it safely wrapped up by then!! I mean the excuses have started already, not a standard test wicket in some of the venues, funny Laxman seems to like them just fine!!
WATCH AS Nehra and Pathan (is the turbanator fit?) rip through the Aussie batting order.
For the rest Laxman, Ganguly, Tendulkar and the boys will see to that!

Hey Ashish,

Cheers for that... so maybe me just rocking up on the day without a guide isn't such a great idea!?

Well that would bring me to the matter of... is there anyone interested in taking a couple of Aussies around the grounds so to speak? Will be aiming for the 4th Test in Mumbai... also if any locals could tell me where and how to purchase tickets would be great!? We are great fun and promise not to be sore loosers (or indeed over zealous winners!) Maybe I starting this pleed a couple of months in advance... anyways if others are keen to head to this one let me know and we'll gee it up.

Cheer Cheer in the land of make believe.

You replied to a post by Bexta that was from 2004 about a cricket test series! Luckily the Aussies are visiting right now and the comment by SydneyKate from 2004 about India not lasting for 4 days seems outlandish at the present time (after the drubbing in Mohali recently)

Cheers
