CRICKET

Well, its been about three months now since this wonderful site got going and as yet there has been no mention about cricket

Seems to me, no site on India is complete without having a continous (and serious) discusion on the game of cricket.

So are there a lot of members here who follow the game ?

And if so (at the risk of starting a raging controversy) what are the thought and opnions on the current happenings in South Africa with regard to the punishment meted out to half the Indian Team by the match refree?

Also, was Sachin really "tampering" with the ball??

cricket

I’m English, so I wont comment on cricket much

Two questions,

Did Sachin think he was peeling an orange?

As cricket is a slow game, have you got to live in a hot, laid-back country to be good at cricket?

Or is this just another poor excuse for the England cricket team.

With the cricket season just starting is it worth trying to answer this question from a three year old thread?

Being Scottish it is deemed an unforgivable crime against the nation to like cricket. However after spending long enough in India and Australia and actually having the rules explained to me I'm now hooked
I watched India make the greatest comeback ever ...was it against England? ...Watched it in Dharamsala with a load of English, Ausies and Indians and I must admit thouroughly enjoyed it. Then watched the ashes in Aus ...Magic

So yep an India site needs a dedicated cricket thread ...

I love the aesthetics of cricket, I just can't see to wrap my head around the rules. Just when it seems to make sense, the rules go all arbitrary(because of my lack of understanding)! Maybe someone should put together a "little" list of rules of cricket for us slow ones that can't seem to figure it out.

This may be the wrong thread, but you know you're missing India when you get really excited when a match from Eden Gardens is going to be on so you get extra Haldiram's Moong Dal and Britania biscuits!

CRICKET EXPLAINED !

You have two sides one out in the field and one in .
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out .

When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out .

Sometimes you get men still in and not out .

When both sides have been in and out including the not outs , THAT'S THE END OF THE GAME !

HOWZAT !!!!!

Not quite... because then they have to have another innings each so all the ins and outs and outs and ins happen all over again and before you know it five days haved gone by and the winner is... nobody... it's a draw!

Any game that can be played for five days and still end in a draw must be brilliant!

When Test cricket was introduced, there was no time limit for a game ! A particular Test match between England and Australia went on for 10 days without producing a result. The game was then stopped only because the English/Australian team (I do not remember the details) had to catch their ship back home!!

Later the duration of a Test match was restricted to five days and much later was the ODI introduced !!

Phew, cricket, trains, Indian food, forts and temples along with diatribes and lavatorial humour - this forum has it all!

The Wall Street crash and its unfortunate after-effects notwithstanding, the early 1930s must have been halcyon days for cricketers and cricket fans. Details of the great timeless test can be found in this excellent website:-

http://uk.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/19...12APR1930.html

It was also a time when India played at Lahore - against The Australians!

Apart from the excellent cricket in the recent series, it was very pleasing to read about the fantastic hospitality provided by the people of Pakistan. Let's hope that there will be plenty of exciting matches in the future between the two great cricketing countries of the sub-continent. Sport is great for building bridges!
