Cricket in 2009?

I wanted to know if there's going to be any cricket matches happening in the month of January, particularly near Hyderabad. I don't follow cricket, but my fanatic boyfriend is going to be in India at the same time and I figured he might like to go. He's never been and I think that's silly when he's so obsessed. And if such a thing exists, how could I buy them early. I know some people were saying that they can only be bought a couple days ahead of time, but I rather buy before I leave for India. Thanks!

Munne, unfortunately there's no International cricket in India around that time. The Indian team is heading across the border into Pakistan for a Test and ODI series in January.

He may be able to watch some domestic cricket though. Not sure if that would appeal to him.

Like ICL and IPL ( I think that's what they're called). I think he would like that. How much do tickets run?

You can buy tickets online for almost all matches [and other events like some rock concerts in India etc etc] at www.ticketpro.in

Didn't India pull out of this Test with Pakistan now? Maybe
they'll play something else at home in Jan??

Question

Yes, munda is right. There will be no match till March and in the meantime all the IPL clubs will form their team for the upcoming series in April-May. But one question strikes me. If we are not going to get all famous international players, only the Indian players and the retired ones, so will IPL can hold the same popularity of it's first year's performance?

A Big Question indeed!!!

IPL was made because BCCI was afraid that ICL might be a big hit, and BCCI was concerned about the monetary losses and business contracts that might go to ICL, so they introduced IPL to grab all the business opportunites that might have landed in front of ICL.

I think craze for IPL will soon fade away. I personally don't find those matches interesting anyway, can't get into the spirit of game in IPL matches who really cares for state vs. state matches.

Street cricket with friends: would probably be somewhere on the top of the things that I miss the most since I left India. Used to play in holidays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. =), it was such a great time with friends.. there was no day that went without cricket. Though it has been around 6-7 years since I used to play so much cricket but memories are still very fresh. I miss street cricket soooo much.

an update :D

Mahendra Dhoni is not the costliest IPL player anymore. Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pieterson are, each sold for 1.55 million us-dollars to Bangalore Royal Challengers and Chennai Super Kings.
