cricket balls..

Hi everyone, Im heading over to India in Feb for my Honeymoon and belive me I am no fan of Cricket, however my husband loves it. Would it be a good idea to take some cricket balls over so he can start up some games with the locals? Of course the cricket balls would be offered as gifts. I imagine it would be easy to start up a game somewhere-anywhere?

Getting a game of cricket going in India is as simple as buying a cup of chai.
Because you are generally playing in the street somewhere cricket balls are usually tennis balls.
However, wherever there is a maidan there's likely to be a game of cricket with the real thing.

Do kindly tell Mr. HB that, under the circumstances of the journey, there is no need to bring any orbs other than the ones already within his immediate & personal possession..

.... played a bit at Juhu Beach and amongst the gazillion games in progess ... was 100% used tennis balls.

the honeymoon is for both of us, he hates shopping, loves sport and meditation. I love shopping, we both love the history and culture of different places. Plus being Australian if he didnt go to India and at least have a couple of games of cricket with the locals, it would never be forgiven! While he is doing that I can take a wander around the local markets and stores. Its all good guys!!

IMO getting the balls from here wud be better...

and cricket in India.....o man.......its like ubiquitous, omnipresent amd omni-active...be it day or night....

This particular guy looks like as if eagerly waiting for some Aussie Balling from your Hubby

Tho not into cricket much (besides being a record holder in my school days.... 14 wide balls in a single OVER

) I would love to play with these guys here.. What pleasure playing anything like cricket/football here... wow!!

And as to gift the balls....i guess u r thinking of Tennis balls kinda stuff becuase that is what mostly used on the street cricket here.

He will have a great time here!!

The guy from Varanassi looks like he is ready for some action!
We'll take some tennis balls over with us, its good way to get to know the locals really quickly, and that can only be a good thing!

last year I went to K mart or target type store and bought a couple of Australian Cricket sets they only cost about $10 each kids size and they contain a bat stumps and ball, best thing is they are marked with the best cricket teams in the world emblem, we gave them to kids playing in the streets in Mumbai, tell your husband to wear a cricket jumper iots the greatest ice breaker for starting up a conversation anywhere in India

I was thinking of asking what they used. Damn glad it's tennis balls, I'm sure the average Indian has a bit of pace. And I doubt there's pads or boxes on the pitch - and even if there was...
I think the Ashes is on during my stay in India, so I suppose I've got to do my research and work out who's in and out of form etc. Will most Indians support the good guys, or the bad guys?

Hi,

We generally support both good and bad

. No pads or gloves on the field. In net practice I had to play with the leather ball for almost 3 months before I could play in the nets i.e. with nothing except an abdomen guard and medium pace bowling.

However what I like is I can join anyone at anytime in a field to play a tennis match no matter whether I know the people playing or not.

You can buy very cheap cricket balls anywhere in India. The tennis balls are even cheaper.

Yeah, wearing an Aussie apparel is an amazing ice breaker. Like me wearing my Aussie cricket t-shirt while walking outside Brabourne cricket pitch, near my hotel room. People asked me if I was there to play. Haha. I love the attention!

I also played a game with the local at Palolem beach, which was pretty cool. After the game just had a few longnecks of Cobra.

Damn, I miss India.

Most of the sports equipment is made in India these days. As to cricket, most of the games played are played with tennis balls (or cricket tennis balls that have a solid rubber cores) as this allows the players to play without the need for pads, gloves etc.
