Wouldn't it be easier to hire the gear from the dive centres? You might want to take your own mask and fins but the rest you should be able to hire - we hire most of our gear when diving with Lacadives - it saves a lot of space and weight when traveling and the cost is not expensive.

Another concern - assuming you want the full gear (apart from a tank) taken out then you are talking about expensive gear. Are you sure you can trust the person who takes it out for you or will it end up on e-bay?

Just interested, that's all. ps Is there no snorkelling gear in the metros? And what's wrong with Singaporean gear as opposed to American?

Hey people

I am just looking for a mask & a snorkel & not scuba gear as you are thinking - tank, regulator, dive suit, fins etc etc.

Carrying just a mask or a snorkel does not add weight or loss of space espicially if i have to travel within india.

If hiring was the best option, people world over wouldn't be investing in their personal adventure sports equipments. And not everywhere you find these equipments on hire, esp in india.

I am very specific about what I am looking for. So who so ever ever comes forward I shall be providing with every single details including the Brand ( US DIVERS ) the model, the price & the store name also.

To machadinha

There is nothing wrong with Singaporean gear as opposed to American, Its just that the specific model & brand I am looking for; may not be easily available. Infact all the scuba / snorkeling manufacturing companies are US based. In singapore one has to settle down either with a very expensive stuff or compromise on features & model.

I have checked top US sports websites selling the stuff that I am looking for, so I can easily point out or provide link to person coming from US that, Pls buy this XYZ stuff from this ABC website. got it.

Yes I'd figured as much. Just that these brands are probably sold the world over (including Singapore) is what I thought.

Can you tell us about snorkelling in Diu then? Again, the cliffs there would first spring to mind. It was an honest question, I'm sure there's an interest on this forum.

I have never snorkeled in DIU, since i do not have the equipments & its not available for hire at diu.

I am sure the underwater at diu won't be as glamourous as andamans & lakshwdeep, but one has to go down & explore.

one might not typically snorkel, but atleast use mask to explore what's up there.

and anyways, being underwater for me itself is very fascinating.

I love beaches, beaches & beaches & everything the beaches are connected with.

Ah! OK. Little disappointing, but never mind.

Diu (Nagoa) beach will give you nothing to see I can assure you. Too sandy.

The subject comes up every so often and I hate to say it but India just doesn't seem to be much of a snorkeler's paradise, with the noticed exceptions above. For that matter I never understand why people see it as a beach destination, but...

But, yes, I understand your enthusiasm (and of course there are some nice beaches since you live there anyway). You'd think there must be hidden gems -- then again you'd think they'd be exploited by now if there were.

As for your equipment, a good-fitting mask won't be all that hard to find (outside of India at least), I wouldn't be all that picky on it. Come to think of it, actually fitting it before buying would be of the essence so... Again, surely Mumbai or perhaps even Ahmedabad or so must have some decent sports shop?

i have done plenty of searching in best of the stores in delhi & mumbai, but of no avail, before posting for this help if some one could carry a snorkeling gear for me.

Besides, fitting is important, but there are other features as well that needs to seen, its not as simple as you think.

.
Hiring is an alternative - it is not necessarily an inferior choice. We take our own mask and fins with us (although it does add significant weight) but that is a personal preference. I would have thought that most dive centres carry a stock of gear to hire because not everyone can take their own gear aroud the world with them.
As Machadinha said what is important is getting a good fitting mask and one that has a low profile for better vision - the make is less important.
