Post Greg Chappell

Greg is considered by many as one of the shrewdest cricketing minds in the game today. He was also the #1 contender when John Wright took over. But the deal fell through due to financial reasons. He was supposed to have asked for an astronomical figure.

This time he has left the renumeration completely to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).

As far as his coaching credentials are considered, he would probably be the best in the world. He has also written a book called "The making of champions" (or something similar).

I hope that the support organization- selectors, officals etc can support him.

I think we can now expect Greg to start posting here asking about the party scene in Bangalore, how to get broadband internet, climate, navigating the Indian bureaucracy, etc. Apparently, he will be based out of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore when not touring.

I hope he dosen't start posting here! If he does, then he too will become an IM addict and spend most of his time on the forum, leaving the poor Indian team without a coach, whom it needs badly at the moment!

Hope he dosen't bring these aspects into his coaching!!
I don't think there's much chance of any repeat of such bad sportsmanship.Whilst I can't directly quote Greg's words he is widely reported on numerous occassions to have stated that at that particular time (1980), he wasn't in a fit state to have been captain of Australia. He acknowledges it was a very bad call and he had to suffer widespread condemnation for years following.

I agree with pkalra that Ian Chappell, whilst a great cricketer,is a very ordinary commentator.A lot of people thought that he was very non-supportive of his brother Greg whilst he suffered angst as a result of the above quoted incident.

I wouldn't worry about Greg looking for party venues, wasting time on the internet etc.He comes across as a very focussed and goal orientated individual who won't allow himself to be distracted from the task in hand.I think he will expect no less from the players.

I think the one reason I like Greg is that he could be defiant if he wants. It needs courage to twist the rules of a 'gentleman's game' when the whole world is watching and you know that you will bear the brunt of all the criticism, not the bowler. We have had a lot of statesman and gentleman sportsperson in our country, its high time we start grooming players who has a lot of aggro and the will to win as Greg had shown during his heydays.

Greg

Well, let's hope Greg Chappell turns around the fortunes of the Indian team, consistently. Though it remains to be seen what our players deliver!

What's the attraction of football? Or tennis? Similar with cricket in India. Its a sport loved by the majority in India, that's all.

well, not for the cricket.
for the scenery, and the buildings, and the people in small numbers, and for the sheer craziness of it all. for the random juxtaposition of wealth and poverty, old and new, for the manic energy, the taxi rides, rickshaws, indian coffee, for the exquisite colours of sarees and shalwar kameez (?).
hard to put into words really - always something happening, never knowing what to expect or what will happen next. the energy, the chaos, the sheer incredible difference to here. what can i say, i loved it, i want to go back.

the second paragraph looks like a decent description of a cricket match!
