Australian cricketing legend from the 70's Greg Chappell has been appointed as the new coach of the Indian cricket team.Let's hope his input can inspire the Indian team to new glories.

Talking Sounds GReat

Ian Chappel was a legend of cricket during the period I grew up. Sorry never heard of his brother Greg. But trust he will be great for Indian cricket.

I am puzzled though that Indian cricket had a Kiwi coach and now an Aussie coach. No insults meant to our down under friends but can't we find a suitable Indian coah. Or was Churchill right that Indians cannot govern themselves. Seems true at least in cricket.

I hope he's not anything like his commentator brother. Its painful when he gives his useless comments over TV.

From wht I've heard, the cricket board is riddled with politics. Politicians meddle with who gets to play on th team -- usually favoring someone from their constituency. I haope the Foreign coaches are more immune to these influences.

Lets face it - what ever Australia is doing that other countries arent, its working!!

I hope India can benefit from it, the contests are good now, but im sure everyone wants to see them get better.

I think though, that Australias success is alot to do with its youth development program. Once India has a cricket academy (or academys) to rival Australias, the baggy greens wont stand much of a chance!!!

On the topic of cricket, can anyone tell me where i can find out what cricket matches are being played in India from November this year? Also, which domestic Indian sides would be the best to go and watch? Does any one know of any International fixtures after November?

You will find all of that information here

Indian Cricket does not really need a "coach" of which no doubt there are plenty eligible ones in the country - it needs a Manager - someone who will bring in discipline and a systematic approach to the game - thats why we need to look for best practice sharing.

Not really - if you buy at least a week in advance. One day tickets are expensive (by Indian standards) - so unless you wait for the last minute or want to buy tickets for the cheapest stands - should not be too difficult. Try to watch a match at Eden Gardens or Wangkhede stadium (Mumbai).

Yes, he did, and also a younger brother Trevor Chappel. Trevor became(in) famous after he bowled a delivery underarm on his brother and then captain Greg's instructions, to a New Zealand tail ender in a one-day match sometime in the early eightees ! NZ required 4 to win off the last ball and the current coach of the Indian team was then not willing to take any chances even with a tailender!!

Hope he dosen't bring these aspects into his coaching!!

Yes, agree with Shimla, it (asking someone to bowl underarm) was not the most sporting thing to do - but then the rules allowed it and it delivered the RESULT! That is how the current Aussie mentality of "always winning " has been formed.

I certainly hope that he does bring that aggressiveness and hunger for winning to Indian Cricket.

After all, you never WIN the Silver, you only LOSE the Gold.

The Indian cricket team probably needs PAs to help the individual cricketers organise their time better!!
Like more cricket less TV advertising!
