another one sided affair

The 4th ODI at Kochi has gone the way of the three previous ones. The home team has got the better of the visitors once again, in spite of yet another failure of those who are supposed to build the innings. They must have seen the writing on the wall – the patience of the selectors is on the point of snapping and, it would not surprise anyone if the so-called reputed batsmen have to surrender their slots to more deserving players who appear to be more reliable under the present circumstances. Of course, the games are played in climatic conditions that favor the home team, like the pitches that are unpredictable as the weather.

As things stand, the captain and coach are on cloud nine, but the lack of real competition has snatched away the excitement normally associated with ODIs and the nail biting finishes. With the series already decided, the remaining three matches would be ideal for experimentation. The basic objective of the present management is to develop the latent skills in the players and create as many all-rounders as possible. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how a few revolutionary line-ups would affect the final outcome – like Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh to open the innings with Mahendra Singh Dhoni coming as three down followed by Suresh Raina. The way they love to thrash the bowlers, it could very well end up with the highest one-day total to surpass the recent Aussies highest.

The bowling attack could be shared by Munaf Patel and Romesh Powar. The captain could keep postponing his entry because, if the top four click and put up an impressive total, as envisaged, Dravid need not even take the field except for the toss!

The stage is set for some real interesting cricket. The objective should be to strive to set new records that will retain their glory for quite some time – it is for the team management and the players to bite the bait. Can we rise to the challenge?

The England team had beaten Australia in the Ashes a few months back. Now we have comprehensively beaten them.

Therefore we are better than the Australian team.

ICC might as well send us the 2007 World Cup in advance and save all the money and trouble.

Did someone get the Champagne?

Our specialist bowlers bat better than they bowl, our specialist batsmen take more wickets than runs they score and our captain does not have to worry about running the team.

There is NO way any other team is going to get the World Cup in 2007.

But we have won the last series in India like 2 years back, and we do currently hold the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. So at the moment Australia has got India in "check".

Well someone at some point will challenge Australia I like what I'm seeing with the Indian team, if they get a opener sorted out and the balance right it could be a good series against Aussiland!!

I do think that it wasn't the strongest England side but nonetheless good showing from India!!

I love the Indian cricket team. And I do want them to go as good as they can, because throughout the years, Indian cricket has always underachieved, except in the 1983 World Cup. So, the Indian in me wants the Indians to win the 2007 World Cup. But..

I don't like it when the Aussies are badmouthed just because of tall-poppy syndrome. And with the English, it's a shame they haven't got their strongest line-up (it's like picking a fight with a blind-man), but I suspect another India-SriLanka series where the Lankans got walloped 6-1. I suspect India will do the same to England. And the final conundrum.. Are England/SriLanka/Pakistan bad one-day sides, or are the Indians just too good? I like to believe the latter, and I'm sure all of you guys will agree.

it is reported that rahul dravid is sitting out the next two games - sehwag will don the cap of the captain. experimentation has begun. let us hope it changes the fortunes of the unfortunate ones.

Since when has fortune started replacing inability to perform?

Does it mean that subscription to a crcket course marketed by an Australian Cricket Academy changes performance critera?
