Ah Cricket!
It's a good game - I think
Never really understood it. Although, in my opinion, any game that takes more than 3 hours to play is way too long for the average sports fan to fathom. Certainly, if the sport would like to expand to the Americas, it would have to be condensed in some manner ..... maybe cut out the tea party .... there's a few hours saved!

Although Cricket is bit slow and lazy.........it is a sports in my openion........because....it is a battle of a man against 11.....the batsman in the batting end fights the battle alone and he knows that he will not get another chance to correct a mistake..........he will DIE..errr, will be out for a single mistake.

I have watched only a few Cricket matches since I moved out of India to the US back in '94. No, I haven't embraced baseball or American football. But I have been to a few games, even played them and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Somebody in this thread downgraded mountain climbing and hunting...I have been climbing and hunting since I came to the US. No, not the shoot from a distance or from a tree stand variety but rather the read sign, stalk, lie and wait in deep snow variety. You need to be able to read terrain and weather to be able to have (and come out of) a successful hunt...not to mention knowing something about first aid, proper handling of firearms and being able to survive in the outdoors. Trust me, all activities (regardless of whether they are termed sports or games) build character if anything. And that only happens if you participate. If you are always going to be a spectator or couch potato, well... The bottomline: there is nothing wrong in loving and supporting only a particular activity but don't go around considering other activities as inferior simply because you don't feel drawn to it or don't understand the culture behind such activities. Hmmm. I get the feeling I am talking to a wall ![]()

I've thought more on this...
To be frank, anyone who truly doesn't think that cricket is a sport isn't really engaging their brain. I don't want to be rude to the OP, but this thread strikes me as a troll. It may be relatively slow at times, but it requires very serious levels of fitness and agility and most certainly isn't lazy. Have you ever seen the diving they do in the field? Do you think someone unfit can bat for 1 hour, let alone 5 hours plus? Just because players do not have to look like body-builders does not mean that they are not fit, unfit players soon get found out. Sport does not just have to test body. Cricket tests the mind as well, perhaps more strenuously than any other physical sport. I'd say only baseball comes close in that regard, but doesn't require such long periods of concentration. And to add - if the OP is simply a joke, you've had me hook, line and sinker....

I hesitate to suggest such a thing, but it's the only justification I can think of for not actually hunting him/her down and ...... well, let's draw a veil over what might then occur. ![]()

Maybe I'm just being tired and grumpy today, Judi....
I've adjusted my previous post! And I definately won't be selecting the OP for the Indiamike Cricket 11 for the next test series against the Thorn Tree. |

I entirely agree - it is the greatest sport in the world. Sorry you're tired and grumpy, this weather is enough to make anyone feel that way. Have a good evening, anyway. |
