I have had friends do it at both the institutes and they both are pretty good as far as the teaching is concerned but if you are worried about comforts and facilities available then the one in Santacruz, Mumbai is preferable over the Nashik one as there are a lot of drawbacks on that front with a lot of mosquitoes and no running hot water available at most times. The prices at the Mumbai institute are much less than the Nashik place and the other thing is going from Mumbai to Nashik which is an added cost. Otherwise there are not too many differences in the two places. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I've received the yoga training in Nasik this year and the outcome of the experience helps me to adapt to changes and strengthens me spiritually and physically. It is true that there are many mosquitoes but I got used to it during my stay in the ashram, and with a bit of common sense its a quick fix to this problem(insect repellent or incense).
By the way, the hot water facility has been installed in the common bathroom so need not worry about it.
Living in the ashram for the 1st week was a struggle for me as I was so tempted to pack my belongings and go home. I've made some very good friends who provided me tremendous mental support with their words of comfort. Also, the teaching staff are so encouraging to make one's feel so comfortable to stay on and not worry so much. It is indeed challenging to learn yoga in an ashram but is definitely a very meaningful experience that one will never forget.
I miss Nasik and will visit india again for my next yoga retreat.
cheers,
amethyst.

Yoga institute Mumbai
I heard a lot about the yoga institute and it seems to be one of the most genuine and oldest organsation in this fiend, with an india style, and i according to my information it is teaching house holders style of yoga which is a simplified version of classical yoga.
A big world and small people
I wanted to visit the Yoga Institute in SC but while they seem to be genuine and their programs interesting the mail correspondence was a bit .. strange. Well, not that strange for India in general, but compared with some other well known institutions like KYM or Shivananda ashram it was rather bad. Well, maybe I'm unfair and not adjusting enough to how things are done, but ultimately, at least if the want to attract western clients it wont make them much good as I will gladly pay 10x the amount at KYM just because of the "professional" approach
To be specific replies coming back months later after the initial normal communication (i had to make arrangements for the visa, at the work and so on in time so this easy going approach is just not practically acceptable), I was sure they would not respond at all after all that time.
Than when they did the acceptance letter (for the visa) was wrong - wrong in period and the course, and besides at the time they responded there was no more time to get a visa, the plain ticket and so on.
So I can't comment on their quality, but wasn't very impressed by their professionality
Not that it matters much to them of course, my problem, but it makes it rather difficult to get there if you are not a hippie-like type with no obligations, commitments, plans...

Hi Goran,I know my post is a bit too far of a distance since 2010
, but I would really like to know whether you eventually went to the Yoga Institute in SC and how it was. It's just that I am planing on going there in January-March 2013 for their 1-month teachers training course, and would appreciate your feedback. Similar Threads
