If you go to http://www.sriramanamaharshi.org/ and follow the link to the left of page Booking and accommodation you can reserve a place in the ashram. I think its by donation no fee last time I stayed. Give them you dates you will hear in a few days. Full moon Christmas holidays and other Indian holidays may be full. They will let you knoe via email.

It is very peaceful there and Ramana presence is still felt.

1) Go around the sacred Arunachala Hill
2) practice meditation at the Ramana Ashram and at the Virupakshi cave

If you know to sit in contemplation for several hours at a stretch, then this ashram is the place for you.

Lou, I really liked your photo collage. It gave me a really good sense of what your experience there was like.

Arunachala sounds like a magical place, I'll have to go, but I'm not sure if I have a disciplined enough practice to stay there for more than a few days.

I spent less than 5% of my time in the ashram last time. The rest was as you would do in any other city in India. If you stay there I don't think there is any demands put upon you. Its pretty laid back. I stayed in the ashram in 2004 so I slept there but next trip I stayed off the ashram in a hotel. I spent a lot of time on the mountain. It is a mystical place. The reason I did not stay in the last time is there is just too many tourist for my liking. I saw more there than any one place in India. It was christmas the place was smothering with foreign and Indian visitors.

Yes that may be a good idea. You will see many single traveling ladies there
