Rishikesh or Dharamshala ?

Now this may sound abrupt but I am planning to go on a peaceful retreat tomorrow and am still confused whether I should go to Rishikesh or Dharamshala tomorrow but I HAVE to go somewhere-that's for sure. I want to join an ashram/monastery where a fair amount of meditation happens but certainly not one where I have to get up at 5 in the morning. Would be glad if someone can help me make a quick decision.

Which interests you more, Hinduism or Buddhism?

No particular choice as such. Actually I have never been to Dharamshala earlier so going there without planning ,I fear, may make it a little daunting. I've been to rishikesh a couple of times not for meditation though so am a little familiar with the place but that's one of the reasons I dont want to visit it because I have been there a couple of times. Any help ?

And if I choose to go to Rishikesh, in which ashram, do you think, can I get accomodation because it seems like in most of the ashrams one has to book accomodations several weeks in advance. I called up parmath niketan and they said they are almost full. Called up sivananad ashram and they asked me to drop an application which I have done but dont think that i ll get accomodation there also. Any pointers on ashram in Haridwar/Rishikesh where I can just walk in?

An ashram where you can just walk in and wake up at whatever time you would like would be...a cave.

Sorry if I'm not helpful, but many of these ashrams are run like businesses now - which means you have to make reservations.

Choose neither and go somewhere else. Perhaps Jageshwar.
