Post Registering for Dalai Lama visit

Hi,

Has anyone been to see the Dalai Lama before? Did you have to register? I am really keen to see him in Dharmasala in September from the 4th-6th. It says on his website it is a good idea to register as it fills quickly. We get into Delhi on the morning of the 2nd and were planning on taking the o/n bus on the 3rd to get us there on the morning of the 4th. Only problem is they suggest you get there 2 or 3 days before. Does anyone know if you have to register, is there a way of doing it outside of Dharmasala (like calling them from Delhi)? Thanks

As far as i know you can only register at the Tibet office in Mcleod once you are there, the reason is you need to produce your passport & 2 passport photo's,you also need to take a FM radio & headphones to the teachings to hear the translation in English. To get a good seat you need to be there for around 7-7.30am & the Tibet office probably won't be open at that time, so it would be better/essential to get there on the 3rd. You cannot take cameras into the teachings & will be searched.KK
SOS: Missing Person...

Please look at this thread: http://www.indiamike.com/india/uttar...012-a-t159252/

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Hi. Thanks so much for your reply. It's really helpful. I thought this would be the case. Do you know if there is a bus that runs from Delhi to Dharamsala in the morning then? I'd rather get there as early as possible. Thanks again for your help

I've never gone by bus from Delhi to D'sala, but i think there is only a night bus arriving early morn in d'sala;
Bus service Delhi-Dharamsala

It's around 12-14hrs by bus so even a early morn bus would not reach there until evening.KK

The earliest morning bus I can find leaves at 6.30am so won't be there before the registering office closes. Argh. Has anyone been before? Do you think it will be okay to register the day before - on the 3rd? Or should i consider the £50 flight on the 2nd? Thanks

If you can afford it then the flight would be the best option, i've flown to Gaggle before & from memory the flight didn't arrive until around 4pmish from memory,by the time you collect your bags & take a cab or bus upto Mcleod it will be around 5.30ish, what time does the office close? I don't want to throw another spanner in the works, but sometimes these flights are delayed due to fog in Delhi.

The flight doesn't arrive until 4.20pm in so I guess that is out now too. Argh! Will just have to get either the day bus or o/n bus and pray for the best. Thanks for the advice though

don't know if it helps but do you know he's in England this summer-he's in Manchester and London but is also doing a reading at Aldershot Football ground as the Gurkhas are based there.
he's doing Manchester on 16-18th June and Aldershot on 21st June.
he's over at the same time as Aung San Suu Kyi which should be interesting.

Hi Dan. Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately I can't get the time off work before my UK working visa expires in July (I'm Australian) and we are going through India on the way home so this will probably be our only chance. But thanks for letting me know anyway Dan

I might be possibly in the Dharmasthala in Mcleod towards the end of this month. I am keen on listening to his teachings. This is what he is teaching on the days I am there:

Teachings in Dharamsala, HP, India from October 29 to 31: His Holiness will give three days of teachings on Chapter 24 of Nagarjuna's Fundamental Treatise of the Middle Way (uma tsawai sherab) at the request of a group of Koreans at the Main Tibetan Temple.

Apart from the FM radio (i reckon since koreans have asked for the teachings, they might be done in English by HH? - no?), will HH also have a meeting with the regular public where he does his blessing? I saw a video of a long line of people waiting to see him or some such thing. How does this work?

Do I need to take a scarf and have him bless it and hand it back to me? Or does he keep it :P

He will not be speaking in English, it will be translated as he speaks, you need a small FM radio with earphones.
No he won't be doing public blessings in the way you mean, although just being there is a blessing.
If you want to go to a blessing like you described then you need to enquire at the Tibet office about this, but it's doubtful you will get one unless you know someone "in the know!"
Good Luck

Is it possible to register on the same day?

I would like to attend the teachings in Sarnath, January 7 -2013 , but I arrive that very same day to Varanasi (at 6:15AM).

Do I have a chance to attend these teachings?

The FM signal never worked

Apparently, they give preference to the tibetan (duh) and the local language of the people asking the questions (korean in my case) before giving English a frequency.

I did see him from close quarters though. He's almost a child
