Ravishankar and Osho
I was told by some one that Osho has written exersises in one of his earliest writings when he was acharya Rajeeesh and this is similar to the sudarshan kriya that is taught by Sri Sri Ravishankar. I actually saw this in one of the websites. It said the only difference is Rajneeesh exercises are done standing. I have lost that link.
Can some one throw some light on this please.

I know nothing of Osho's teachings, but have done and was a teacher of, the Sudarshan Kriya, by Guruji, ravi Shankar.
It wouldn't surprise me that there are similar kriyas to the Sudarshan one. I got hold of a little book put out by the Vivekananda people a few years ago. In it there are quite a few asanas, Kriyas etc. Three of the kriyas were very similar to the Sudarshan Kriya, but without all the mystery, and "specialness".
Not simple, but easy cleansing kriyas.
Desikachar also has a few ideas on Cleansing Kriyas, and they don't involve any special stuff, except , obviously, preparation of the body through yoga.

I don't know anything about either!
It does occur to me, though, that the human is a machine --- and how many ways are there to work any particular machine?
Where some guru or godman misrepresents their particular teachings and methods as being unique, that is just dishonest, but it does seem to me that there is a pressure on them to come up with something different.
It's all a market... and marketing...

Absolutely. I have a rule that as soon as something like a "new" kriya comes up, or a new way of doing yoga for a quick trip to nirvana, I just walk the other way now.
All these things were here long before all the people exploiting them.
The other thing is this propensity to wear white all the time, and have your "helpers" wear it as well.
It's another trick to make them instantly humble, by feigning death, and pretending they are in a constant state of meditation.
Wearing jeans just wouldn't have the same effect, but would probably help their egos no end.

Thanks! Actually in my opinion Swami Poornanada Thirtha , my pranayama guru, and an exponent of pranayamas and vednata and mediation was the kind of pinoneer of modernday pranayama schools. More so, of the kriyas that are given mnay leading world wide schools in making a set out of His teachings and give a fresh name for it.
I was quite interested to know of Oshos exercises. There was a mention about that in some web page which I lost.
Any way Thanks.

rammala,
What's modern Pranayama ?
And who is this guruji of yours you are talking about, never heard anything about him. I have seen other posts also, in them also you are talking about 'Your Guruji who pioneered Pranayama '???????
What's up boss ?

Please understand that all these so called Kriyas are just variations or the same as that is stated in the Rajayoga. The complete text of this is available in one of the volumes of The complete Works of Swami Vivekananda published by the Sree Ramakrishna Mission.I think it is the 2nd Volume.Patanjali's Yogasutra with notes is there and Swami Vivekananda's explanations are wonderful. If anybody is interested I can find out the correct volume.Swamiji writes about this not as anything of his own as all these persons claim.Even for those who do not practice it is a wonderful collection worth reading.

Now that's an Introduction.!!!
But, he is a bit of a hero of mine.
Then I think back to Ravi Shankar, and Osho and the like, and think, You've got NOTHING to offer, except this knowledge re-hashed.
All they have is a knowledge on how to manipulate that for which we all strive, the way to grasp the infinite.
Swami Vivekananda said...
"We are not human beings trying to live a spiritual life,
We are Spiritual beings, trying to endure the human condition."
All these tools, yoga, the vedas etc, are tools to let us see what we already are.
When we can see this, all desire melts away.
We have no needs, except to be in the present.
And this becomes effortless.
That'll be five hundred bucks thanks, my secretary can write you a reciept.

That's part of the problem when the whole organisation is centered around the Guru, and not the teachings, or in my case, Hinduism.
When the Guru goes, what is there? At least leave a successor, or a few good books around. (Vivekenanda) It's been 60 years, and Ramana still prevails around Tiruvanammalai. Will we be able to say the same 60 years after Osho or any others? I sure won't, I'll be in another body by then I hope.
