Of Ashrams, Music, and Travel
Hello all. I know many people have inquired about Ashram's over the years on this site, and yet here is another post. If you don't mind taking the time, any and all of responses are appreciated.
My name is Avi. I am a 22 y/o guy from the states who is currently traveling around the Oceania, but is planning on taking on the world. I have been striving for this globetrotting life for years now, and has now come to fruition. Though I do not want to plan too much as to let life guide me, I have always prioritized India as one of my main destinations. Roughly around September, I will head to India, to see as much of the country as possible. I do wish to involve myself fully into an Ashram; at a young age I was introduced to yoga, kirtan, and the benefits that may be obtained (though by all accounts, am still a novice), and wish to further my own spiritual studies.
Honestly, I don't know quite where to start. Two main goals from my whole travels is A). Wisdom and B). Music, for I carry with me my guitar and voice, for I love traditional (folk) music from around the world (I am going to play, sing, and learn from local musicians). So, from this, I conclude that Bhakti may be a good starting point, but want to touch all the bases.
Can anyone suggest and/or aid me about intimate, real McCoy Ashram's? From what I gather, India varies greatly mattering on where you are, and I do wish to get to know the real India. Not fond of big 'retreats'-I am seeking something more than a crowd. At any rate, thanks for all who take the time to read and respond to my questions, any advice is valued.
