Long term stay Communes
Long term stay Communes
I am an Australlian who will be retiring soon. I am looking at spending 5 to 6 months in India in a meditative spiritual Commune. From a personal perspective I am a keen follower of Osho but I think that perhaps their Centres are a bit up market for me cost wise but if anyone has experience of them I would be greatful for any info. Otherwise I am interested in anything where the requirements are not too heavy and you have freedom to move. India/ Nepal, I am flexible.Just somewhere beautiful and lay back. Cheers Bendigo

I'm not certain that any ashram is 'laid back'.
And there is a large number of threads on ashrams:

You could always try ashram life in Australia before taking it on somewhere else. I have no idea of the cost of these, I just know they exist, and they might be worth checking out.

Hi Bendigo!
I enjoyed my stay at the Osho Nisarga Ashram. It was laid back. One can attend as many or as few classes as one feels like at the time, and the food was tasty, the people very friendly. People of all ages are there.
About the cost, not sure what you consider to be affordable. Some people were staying there for several months, so maybe they give discounts for long stays. You could contact them. They are changing their website at the moment, but here's some contact details meanwhile:

Hi Shirvani Many thanks for your info. I intend now to go to Osho Nisarga in March for the Mystic Rose Group session. The accommodation and course costs are both brilliant. Did you get the impression that people can actually go there for say four or five months at a time or do they have to be doing a course. Cheers
Hi Doc
Hey thanks a lot for your response. I will check them out. India is attractive in general though due to the insanely low cost of living compared to Australia or New Zelanand. The ashram in the bush sounds interesting though. cheers

I took your advice and contacted the Ashram in the Bush in OZ. Following on from several emails to and fro I wiil be leaving New Zealand and moving there to live at the end of Ocotber. It is in a very beautiful part of the country that I know quite well. The set up there is perfect for me and I can see myself spending a long, long time there. Owe you one. Sincere thanks and kindest regards. Bendigo
