its good form to insult people on a spirituality thread

if that is too dogmatic for you perhaps u should refrain from advising aspiring monastics

hey i just want to make it clear that I love Jesus Christ. Even though Im not a christian. I didn't mean to offend anyone sorry.
The visa is 180 days over a 6th month period. Thats the only one they give now. I cant do anything else from here I have to get To India first. I got two references about the extension and maybe im mistaken but if so I have money and I should probably mention that the people im staying with are millionaires. Including my friend who will never let anything happen to me. Thanks once again for all the help it might be harsh but I know its out of love. Ive traveled across the US Ive been homeless in Ohio walked the streets of Minnesota, ive been car jacked and kidnapped. Ive been abused and kicked around All over this Country and Ive come out with a pretty good understanding of what ya'll are talking about, believe it or not, like I said I dont expect you to, Im pretty much an alien In my own world . also ive dove very deep into Buddhas and a lot of philosophy's, That is my life. I only feel content when im studying or doing something spiritual

There is nothing for you to sort out on the ground, in terms of your visa.

You will have to leave after (before, rather) 180 days (not: 6 months). Keep that firmly in mind, and don't let anyone tell you differently. No alleged "contacts" (or money) they may have or nothing. You can't stay for longer. You can't change your visa to another category in-country. Period.

Question cheryl--What do you mean by "here"

If here in the United States, you are totally wrong about that. I have a 10 year tourist visa. It's very easy to get, exactly the same form as the 6 month visa, you just check off a different box and pay more.

You totally do not understand your visa!! If it's a 6 month tourist visa, it started running on the date stamped on it. If you got it a month ago, it's now good for 5 months, etc. YOU HAVE TO LEAVE 180 DAYS AFTER THE DATE STAMPED ON IT.

Happy you have rich friends! Sounds like a big improvement from being homeless and all the other terrible things you've gone through.

BTW, no one is offended, at least not me, about your religious beliefs. I do not happen to love Jesus Christ because I am not a christian. He's just an important historical figure to me. So, whatever you believe, that's okee dokee with me!

Your references about extensions on a tourist visa are wrong. I don't care who told you. You can only change your tourist visa if you marry an Indian.

Glad you have people who will take care of you in India. Hope there are no strings attached as you seem to find yourself in perilous situations quite often, which might say something about your judgment of people. Possibly too trusting

Enjoy learning about India. It's an amazing country.

Just an aside to you who know who you are : Hey, could we possibly, please, please, please just this one time NOT get into deep religous discussions & philosophical opinions on certain IMers strongly held beliefs back & forth & back and forth ad nauseum giving offense, taking offense, criticizing others, critizing those who critize others Start a new thread please, this one's doing quite well already.

EDITED TO ADD: Camelgirl beat me to it - though she's not a self confessed pedant.

No worries about whether you do or don't love Jesus, as long as you don't actively insult another religion on here it's fine. Plenty of people on here with all sorts of beliefs, and while idiots tend to get mildly derided, we don't pick on people because of their religion.

Me, I believe in the flying spaghetti monster and hereby bestow upon you his noodly blessings.

Yes , but I find it prudent in cases like these to not further fuel any fantasies by pointing to some rare exceptions.

If you fall from your hotel roof that 180-day period can in fact be extended until and only for as long as (and with reportedly a whole lotta hassle all along the way) you're ready to be carted off and out of the country; that doesn't make it a recommended course of action.

That whole assertion (by Cheryl) of being very informed about some "Buddhism" (which form of Buddhism precisely? And what other philosophies?) when there is no evidence of that, and now some alleged contacts to some "millionaires" there (let me guess, found over the web in a chatroom or something?) has me deeply, deeply worried.

My woman's asleep though and I shouldn't be typing too much, it disturbs her. More later. But I'd ask you for now and once again to proceed very cautiously.

Camelgirl, you obviously overlooked the title of this thread "I want to join a monastery" which the OP posted in the "Yoga, Spirituality, and Religion in India " forum not the visa one. KK

I have a returned flight already in order in case i do want to go back in march. As far as my friends money, im not relying on that. I was planning on going to India and I was blessed by my friend insisting to help. My friend is Chinese but doesn't speak it, he was born Indian and lives in the US. He has been one of the kindest people in my life and I love him dearly. When he told me I always have a place to go in India or America I cried, I was so happy. although he is doesn't want me to do this he is supportive. Im so thankful for all the blessings from my friends and so thankful for the Understanding of Buddahs philosophy it strikes so deep with me ill always have undieing hope and faith because of this.

For the benefit of any IndiaMike members who are currently planning a visa extension, I should point out that it is NOT necessary* to throw yourself off your hotel roof.

*An upper floor balcony is also perfectly acceptable.

Well, kk, before you start lecturing camelgirl on her posting protocols, I feel constrained to point out that you obviously overlooked the fact that the desire to "join a monastery" in India has inevitable visa and immigration implications, as well as lots of other considerations.

And, cheryl, I don't think anyone took anything you said as insulting or offensive.

Excellent and most important point btw, I'd quite overseen it in the heat of it all.

The standard tourist visa is valid FROM DATE OF ISSUE folks, not from date of entry. (Yes, I understand it may then work differently for the US 10-year visa and some such other exceptions.)

the consolat dose not offer 10 or 5 year visas at the moment I would have gotten one if they did I dont know why they dont probably the war going on.(or the government must be lying to everyone) I just want to find out how the other nuns were able to stay. Ive got my whole life to do this im not in a hurry. If I have to go back and forth that fine it is not a big deal.
The terrible life lessons I went through were because I was young and without guidance.(I was homeless at 16 and a hoodlum) those lessons are why I have good judgment now. Common lighten up peeps! Im not as dumb as you'd think.
