Dwadash Jyotirilinga in one stretch
Dwadash Jyotirilinga in one stretch
There are 12 Jyotirilingas in India, that are supposed to be the seat of Lord Shiva.....all of them are spread over the entire length and breadth of India...
The list of the lingas are
1. Somnath (near Veeraval, Gujarat)
2. Nagnath (Dwarka, Gujarat)- (Oundha, Maharashtra)- (near Almora, Uttaranchal)- (Kashipur, Uttaranchal)
3. Mahakaleshwar (Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh)
4. Omkareshwar (Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh)
5. Bhimashankar (Near Thane, Maharashtra)- (near Guwahati, Assam)
6. Triyambakaeshwar (Nashik, Maharashtra)
7. Ghrishneshwar (Aunragabad, Maharashtra)
8. Srisailam (near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh)
9. Rameshwar (Rameshwaram, Tamilnadu)
10. Baijnath (Parli, Maharashtra) - (Chamba, Himachal Pradesh)- (near Bhagalpur, Bihar)
11. Vishwanath (Varanasi, Uttarpradesh)
12. Kedarnath (Kedarnath, Uttaranchal)
Locations of the 9 Jyotirilinga are undisputed, while the three Nagnath, Baijnath and Bhimashankar are somewhat disputed.
As one can see they are through out the length and breadth of India
Now my query is regarding travelling to all these places
1. I want to do them in one stretch, is it possible, has anyone done that
2. What is the best timeperiod to do that....(here the bottle neck being that Kedarnath is open only for about 7-8 months in a year
3. What time period i must give myself to do that, if i want it to do by public tansport (trains and buses only)
4. Any other practical advice
Regards

Reason: moved to spirituality forum
I also have this desire pranavganesh. I haven't done it yet but I have the instinct myself to make Kedarnath the first visited, working south and making Rameshwaram the last one. (Or do them all again, going back to Kedarnath!)
I would like to know if there is a traditional order/s amongst shaivites?
say hello at myspace.com/zappasearcher
The only law that applies to us, the law that protects the life, liberty rights and property of all living souls.
"If only lawyers understand the written laws, they are the only ones who should obey them"

Sorry Rich for being late in reply....
I have been wandering a bit away from the civilization and didnt have an access to the INTERNET...
I am glad that you share my dream....
Well I have visited quite a few Jyotirlingas.... Somnath, Dwarka, Bhimashankar, Nashik, Aurangabad, Ujjain, Almora, Kashipur and Rameshwaram... to be precise.....
But not all of them...and of course not in one stretch.....
I am not aware if there is an order of doing them....but the religious text have a unique order of mentioning all the dwadash Jyotirlingas....may be in a sequence of importance...
But for a traveller like you and a spiritual being like me (devoid of dogmas)... I think this order can be skipped in favour of geographical logic....
I think you are right ...we should start from North....may be
Baijnath in Kangra..
then
Kedarnath, Almora and Kashipur in Uttaranchal..
then come to plains and start doing them one by one...
lets see if I am able to do it ever
As we say in Hinduism....we are able to do a piligrimage ...if and only if there is a divine beckon
For example ....I have lived 30 years of my life in a place some 150 kms from Varanasi and have not been able to visit Vishwanath....despite visiting Varanasi for a dozen times...
