Ashram in rishikesh???

Hello,

I'm looking to travel to Rishikesh in the beginning of June. I'm looking for an ashram or place where I can practice an intense week of yoga (am a beginner) and completely unwind from 5 months in Bangalore, do a little new found meditation, a really relaxing environment. I'm not so keen on any establishment with too much 'rise at 5am, all pilgrims sing the rising sun, chant' etc.

Simplistic and a bit more personal thatn a 1000 room ashram perhap.... I've seen an ashram called Phool Chatti on the net. Does anyone know of this place and or can reccommend any others??? Greatly appreciate.

any other Rishikesh advice be nice, good places to head on to after towards Himachal Pradesh way.

Thanks!!

Thumbs up Rishikesh Ashrams

Hi,

Paramarth is one option. You can also stay at Sivananda Ashram, Muni ki Reti Rishikesh. An email needs to be sent to request for an accomodation. Spend time in Guru's kutir. Perfect for meditation by the Ganges. Below is the contact for the Ashram:

The Ganga Aarti in Hardwar's Har-ki-Pauri starts at around 6.30pm after sunset,

Madras cafe - in Rishikesh is a nice restaurant -for a Himalayan pulao and I have to tell you this, it is a great (non-spicy, spicy versions available) meal. It is near the auto stand near Sivananda gate.

Greetings everyone,

is it necessary to book ahead precise dates to stay in most of the ashrams, or is it also possible to show up and then decide how long to stay? I'm travelling to rishikesh late feb, until early april.

Thanks!

IMHO it's always best to just turn up, India has an habit of taking you where you are meant to be.KK

Some people have suggested that to me KK; hearing it again gives me more faith.

Depends on the ashram. You can get an ashram with 5 star facilities for 5 star price and there are some ashrams which don't charge at all.

For 5/4/3/2 star ashrams, book in advance. For poor ashrams, just walk in.

Dayananda Ashram

Has anyone been to this ashram in Rishikesh? Any feedback? Also, looked on their website and to apply, someone has to be recommended to take yoga classes there. How strict is this policy? Thanks.

Are the ashrams that don't charge worse than the others that charge? I mean if i want to learn meditation, yoga and find that spirituality in myself, do the poor ashrams help. What's the difference between them? Is it acommodation or the tachers too?

I hope i didn't make a fool out of myself with the question, but i really need yoga and meditation and i think the best way to do it, is to live in an ashram and do it with other commited people.
