Are there living masters in India now?

Hello,

This spring I will be making my third trip to India with my girlfriend. She has never been there. I would like to experience a living master with her. Do you know who is currently giving satsung/darshan right now in India?

Here are three people I think are still active:
http://www.sathyasai.org/
http://www.amma.org/
http://jagadgururambhadracharya.org/

Thank you for your time.
Cheers,
Phil

http://www.sathyasai.org/ --- died last year, leaving the conjuring industry one person less.

http://www.amma.org/ --- this one I do have a lot of respect for

http://jagadgururambhadracharya.org/ --- no idea.

But... how do you experience a living master? especially with someone else? And why should you come to India to do it?

Lots of stuff, and lots of controversy on all this, in other threads... but, generally, titles (bunkum, according to me) aside, I don't think that the kind of experience you are referring to comes in neat packages. Except Amma's hugs: they come in pretty neat thirty-second packages (and, I recommend them) although the queue may take several hours.

Thanks for the response. It funny the reaction from people. We get very heady at this discussion. Keep it simple. Someone is a master if they are a master. It is up to the individual to decide once in the masters presence. So spread the information.

To many words and talk with spiritually. Just live.

Cheers,
Phil

I would add the name of Swami Adgadananda and Swami Avadheshananda. Love Adgadananda.

I'd rather have a happy medium than a sad guru

Anyone who can keep anything simple in India, is simply a master.

Big trees are great masters – as well as dancing grass.

You could meet Sant Rajinder Singh Ji at Kripal ashram (www.sos.org) - though he stays half the year in California, or lookup contact at www.sass.com.

Very decent of you.. You may know this poem about trees, i'll share the closing stanza anyway, 'Trees Against The Sky' by Robert William Service. 1874-1958.

Trees, trees against the sky -
O I have loved them well!
There are pleasures you cannot buy,
Treasurers you cannot sell,
And not the smallest of these
Is the gift and glory of trees. .
So I gaze and I know now why
It is good to live – and to die. .
Trees and the Infinite Sky.

You're right Aupu.. Things are simple, after all they are just things, even if we do or don't know how the thing works.

There are several true masters in India. But most of them donot prefer publicity of any kind. Also, the choice of a master depends on your approach to spirituality. If you are looking at Self Enquiry - Ramana Maharishi would suit you. If you are looking at Kriya yoga - Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda would be your preference.

If you earnestly look for a master, you can definitely find one.

I would consider Sri Sri Ravishankar to be a living master. One should listen to his speeches to get a better idea.
