Yuksom is just a small village with few guesthouses. The only place in Sikkim to handle TC would be Gangtok.

No. You need to get your cash ready before you reach there. Siliguri is the last point where you can get your cash. Or Gangtok if you are planning to go there.

Arunchs, going by your blog, it seems the leech problem is nightmarish. I have a fear of creepy crawling stuff, and am wondering if this is the right trek for me.

Im planning to do this trek in the first week of May.. maybe from 5'th to 13'th. I'll be traveling alone and im a indian national.
Been following this thread with interest and encouraged by the info given out here, im thinking of going to Yuksom directly and hire porters/guides from there. Hope this option still possible. I would very much like to know what the approximate daily charges would come to for the trek, considering the above plan. |

I and a friend did the first trek of the season in March 2007 till Goecha La pass at 5000mtrs above sea level in Sikkim thats the closest u can get to Mt Kanchenunga the third highest peak in the world without flying over it or being Sherpa. The snow was yet to melt beyond Dzongri in alpine meadows, the last habitable village of Tsoka thats Malana/Vaisisth in the makin akin to Homachal minus the grass scene with only chilled beer and mobile phone coverage with solar power being worldly comfort in log huts at 08 hrs uphill climb of above 1000mtr from Yuksom being ur initiation into the kanchaneunga Sanctury. The place is overrun with international cliental minus the haldiram mixture/Kurkure and maggi packets spewing insensitive local trekkers u will find in Uttranachal and Himachal maybe tahts the reason it is the costliest place to trek in india. Talk with others trekkers revealed money upto $35 per person perday changing hands, ht e thumb rule being the further away u book ur trek from in maybe delhi ot kolkata the costlier it is than maybe darjeeling or gangtok it's cheapest at Yuksom. where the going rate is Rs 300/- to 200/- per porter/cook or guide without any equipment to hire. so do u calculation backward to know how much the middle men are pocketing. u can check another intresting string from chat of my friend who walked with me at india mike site: |
