A very informative and detailed Trip report. Enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing. I am planning to visit West Sikkim for Rhododendron and Birding (up for Easy to Moderate Trekking also). Can you please suggest me a itinerary, My journey plan is as follows:

1. 6th April, 2016 - Board Darjeeling mail from Sealdah
2. 7th April, 2016- Reach NJP then .........
3. ..........
4. ..........
5. .........
6. Board Padatik Express from NJP.
It will be 4 nights (& 5 Days) plan
I will be with my wife only and like to prefer shared mode of transport. Please suggest if you have the contact details of the stay options you have booked and any details of transport.
Thanks in advance.

@Arjun,
Thanks for a really detailed trip report. I have booked Ghonday resort for 2 days.

Is it a good plan to visit varsay for a day trip on 2nd day from Kaluk and moved to okhrey on next day?
Another point is what are the options available for okhrey to NJP to catch my train.

Hi sirshmax,

With toddler I would not recommend for varsay trek. If you still want to go there your plan is perfect.
okhrey to NJP --> You have to hire a full car. Just contact the the hotel where you are staying.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I have completed my trip.

The itinerary followed was like,

1. 6th April -Darjeeling mail
2. 7th April - NJP- Jorethang- Okhrey - Night stay @Okhrey (Karma Sherpa's Homestay)
3. 8th April - Okhrey - Hilley (Car) - Barsey (Trek) - Nightstay @forest barrack (the caretaker Pusai was very much helpful in spite of booked through Mr. Adhir Paul)
4. 9th April - Barsey to Uttarey (First Barsey to Dentam(Lidung) trek -- close to 10 km downhill through raw jungle- road almost no existent) then Car to Uttarey (last 5-6 kms)
5. 10 th April - Uttarey to Meinbas falls by trek
6. 11th april - Uttarey -Jorethang - Namchi (then namchi sightseeing Samdruptse, Char Dham and Sai Mandir) , then took share jeep to Siliguri and catch Padatik to Sealdah.

It was a nice trip with lots of adventure specially on the trek route of Barsey-Dentum and the Meinbass falls trek route. If anybody need any details please message me. I will try to put a details travelogue with pics later.

Thanks,

Indranil

I'll be travelling to Pelling and Darjeeling in November with my 15 months old daughter, husband, my mom and another elder relative who often suffers from Motion sickness. We intend to book a full cab for the transfers. Our plan is as below;
Day 1: Arrive at NJP at around 9:00 AM and transfer to Pelling
Queries: Cab cost? Any recommendation for cab booking? Xylo/Innova/Small car, which will be better? En-route stops for food and views?
Day 2: Pelling local sightseeing
Queries: Cab cost? Should I book local cabs only? What are the points to cover?
Day 3: Pelling to Darjeeling
Queries: Which route should be followed in terms of road condition/time taken? En-route sightseeing options?Cab cost?
Day 4: Darjeeling Sightseeing
Queries: Cab cost? Should I book local cabs only? What are the points to cover?
Day 5: Darjeeling to NJP to board Padatik Express at 9:00 PM
Queries: Which route should be followed in terms of road condition/time taken? En-route sightseeing options?Cab cost?
