West Sikkim Tour

Hi All,
I just joined the IndiaMike forum.
Last year I with my wife visited North Sikkim and Gangtok I would like to share some of the photographs of our Journey.
http://picasaweb.google.com/binayrungta/SikkimTour#

But I could not visit West Sikkim. This time during October I wants to visit West Sikkim alone.

Can any body help me to workout the expenses (As low as possible) and tour detail.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to IndiaMike Binay!

Just checked the link - Great photographs! I haven't visited Sikkim yet, so can't advise but I'm sure someone with experience will come along soon with more info. You may also want to take a look at the links at the bottom of this page or searching the forums for older posts on West Sikkim.

For West Sikkim trip....I would recommend you a 2 days halt at Varsey.....a simple straight 4 km easy trek through the Alpine forests, inside the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, stay at Gurash Kunj at Varsey. and then also can visit touristy places like Pelling and Ravangla in West Sikkim......search for Varsey and you will find more threads about it in Indiamike.

See this thread: Varsey under heavy snow

Just visit Varsey...some back and you will thank me for it.
....life is a journey.....and the journey is more important than the destination........

Smile West Sikkim Trip

Hi friends,

I, with my family ( 8 adult member, 1 child) am planning for west sikkim during 29th oct. to 3rd nov. My plan is as follows:

Day 1. 29th morning reaching silliguri by DARJEELING MAIL. Reaching OKHREY by afternoon. Nightstay at OKHREY.

Day 2: 30th morning travelling towards HILLEY. From HILLEY 4km trek to VERSEY. Night Stay at Guras Kunj.

Day 3: 31st morning returning back from VERSEY. Proceed towards PELLING via OKHREY.

Day 4: 1st nov, morning proceed towards KALUK. Nightstay at KALUK.

Day 5: 2nd nov. After lunch returning back for New Jalpaigury to catch Darjeeling Mail at 20:00.

In this trip I have few things to clarify:
1. During Oct end or Nov first, whether it is worthy to go to VERSEY. ( as rhododendron flower is not expected during this time) ?
2. Which one will be better: 1. KALUK, 2. RINCHENPONG, 3. UTTAREY ?
3. How much time is required to reach PELLING from HILLEY?
4. What are the Hotel rates at all these places? Please give me the hotel name, rates and booking procedure ?
5. If I book a TATA Sumo or some other car for this entire trip, what will be its rate?

Pls give suggestions

west sikkim

Hello Partha
firstly i have found your trip very hectic. in end october, november you need to seat back and watch kanchenjonga for hours. you should not just touch and go for as many places you can. it will not be wise. secondly, if u g to Kaluk, why are you trying to go to Pelling. Do you like a busy town than a calm village? my suggestion will be-
1. 29th Okhrey (hv you booked Sherpa Lodge?)
2. 30th Okhrey - relax and see Kanchen and acclimatise the child
3. 31st Varsey
4. 01st Kaluk (start a bit late after seeing Kanchen from there.)
5. 02nd return to NJP after early lunch after enjoying Kanchen from there. Kanche Vally Hotel, Godhe resort, Rinchengpong village resort and Madarin resort are few places to stay there.

Skip Pelling as it only give a zoomed view of kanchen. not rinchengpong because Kaluk has a better view. Not uttaray becuse it is far away from versey and a bit boring if you do not trek.

thank you and best wishes.

Day 1. 28th morning reaching silliguri by DARJEELING MAIL. Reaching Gangtok.

Day 2: 29th reaching LAchen.

Day 3: 30th Lachen-Gurudongmar-Gangtok.

Day 4: 31st Gangtok-Pelling/Kaluk/Utteray.

Day 5: 1st Pelling/Kaluk/Utteray sightseeing

Day 5: 2nd nov. After lunch returning back for New Jalpaigury to catch Darjeeling Mail at 20:00
