West Sikkim Tour
Hi All,
I will be visiting West Sikkim for 7 days in the first week of June 2008. I will start with 2 nights stay in Kaluk, then 2 nights stay in Ravangla and then 3 nights stay in Pelling. I also want to see Hee-bermiok, Uttarey, Hilley, Versey and any other places noteworthy from these places by day trips. Please suggest me a proper route map or the way i should approach the sightseeing program to cover all. Thanks Suman |

hi suman,
i seriously suggest not to go to west pelling in june. i was in sikkim for last ten days. last three days in pelling. its raining and mountains are totally un visible due to fog. most of the locals advised the same. as for varsey trek, its not the season for rhodendrons ( main attraction for varsey trek ). you wont find any plus treks are closed due to rain. go before 15th may and after 1st march. I would agree..its very cloudy right now in pelling..rainy and foggy..absolutely no view. It would be a waste going to pelling now..but u can ofcourse do the local sight seeing...its only the snow capped peak that will give u a miss..but u will enjoy the local sights and falls. and i personally like to be in mountains in the rainy season. it is awesome. the beauty of mountain really comes out in the rainy season.

I'm headed for Gangtok/Kalimpong/Pelling 6/15-17. Are we talking about 80% probability of no visibility and rain in Pelling? Or 100%? How about temperature ranges?

Hi Everyone,
I am just back from my tour.. Monsoon is yet to break in the hills and its still sunshine with intermittent rains...We experienced rains mainly at nights .. but its sunshine and fog both .. sometimes very bright sunshine and sometimes very misty.. in a nutshell we experienced every aspect of the beauty of the mountains... and believe me THE FOG AND MIST AND THE RAINS make the mountains more beautiful and a treat to the eyes.. And to top the icing on the cake, we got lucky to see the Kanchanjunga and Kumbhakarna peaks from Pelling.. |
