Smile West Sikkim tour May 2012

Dear all IMERS

I have been following this forum for last 1 years . I am really greatful to this site regarding my sikkim tour which i have done on my own by reading the post of many experienced Travellers who guided me the tour of north sikkim. Before I used to travel through the different tour operators but I always used to have a sense that I am always being bounded by some kind of invisible string while travelling with them as per their scheduled tour plan. It was my 1st attempt to go to sikkim on my own last year which was very much succesful .This could have not been possible without you all. Thanks for the guidance once again

This time I am planning to go to west sikkim on May 2012.
PLs guide me through the itenary . I will be travelling from Kolkata to NGP along with my family and friends. My friends have never seen snow. So Pls guide me that which are the places to go so that we can find snow and also very panoramic view of MountK.

Make a rough plan after going through this. We could help you refine the plan.

Hi Sudipto,

Welcome to IM. First things first - you have very remote (or if I may say no chances) chances of experiencing snow anywhere in Sikkim if you travel in May (unless you're trekking to higher altitudes). Moreoever, it hardly snows in West Sikkim even during winters. However, for a panoramic view of Mt. K, West Sikkim is THE place which you should think of going. IMO, Kaluk offers the best unobstructed view of a huge Eastern Himalayan range, Bermiok offers a closer and framed view of Mt. K, but thats the only peak visible from Bermiok. Pelling would be too cluttered in May, hence you can opt for Yangtey or Biksthang instead.

Hope this helps,

-Sagar.

Thanks for the link. But i am still confused about the route of west sikkim. I mean what should we do after reaching NJP. Should we go to gangtok and from there plan a tour to south sikkim or should we go somewhere else directly.

Its hard to get snow on May in Sikkim.........but if you are really eager to get snow, opt for N. Sikkim.......you may get some snow at Gurudongmar/towards upper Yumthang or zero point........most of all who can predict nature
.

Totaly confused how to explore the beautiful earth when one life is too short to complete my great India

Sudipto2011,luckily its snowing heavily in Kashmir and Ladakh region. I m sure, this year, because of extended cold winter, we may get snow in North Sikkim (particularly Gurudongmar Lake and Zero Point)even in May but as other experts opined, it all depends upon nature.. I am also heading to Sikkim in May this year.

Thanks for the information ashish but as you said no one can predict mother nature. All of my friends are excited about seeing snow, so really have to think over what to do.

First of all thanks mady for the offer for cab sharing but I think you will be going to visit West sikkim, But we are moving towards east sikkim and we have planned a very short due to very tight schedule at office.

My itenary are as follows:
6/3/2012 -> Journey start from Kolkata to NJP by padatik express.
7/3/2012 -> From NJP to Gangtok Stay there at Hotel Hidden Flower.
8/3/2012 -> Sightseeing of gangtok .
9/3/2012 -> From Gangtok travel to TSomogo , Nathula, Baba mandir & back to Hotel
10/3/2012 -> Return journey from NJP to kolkata.

We have changed the plan from west sikkim because of shortage of time and all of friends families are eager to see Snow . I am submitting one of my favourite pics of zero point during my trip on 2010
