Travelling from Darjeeling to Pelling, and weather

I need to rent a car and driver to go from Darjeeling to Pelling, stay for a few days and then return to Bagdogra. Whats the best way to do this? Does anyone have any suggestions for how to go about doing this?

Also, I will be in Darjeeling/Sikkim from sept. 22 to 27. What is the weather like during this time? Should I pack warm clothes, rain gear, sneakers? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Hi poecash,
There are so many travel agencies at Darjeeling. And a car for Pelling is easily available. But I am sorry cant tell you the exact rent because I always prefer to go to Gangtok and then Gangtok to Pelling. Moreover I prefer to travel by a shared jeep (it saves a lot of money). There is a jeep stand near Darjeeling Mall (chowrasta) where Shared jeep for Kalimpong / Gangtok / Pelling is available you can directly talk to them to reserve a whole jeep for you else you can try the shared service.

But I believe it will be better if you talk to your Hotel Manager for a car. But before that get some idea from outside and negotiate with Hotel – that will be safe.

Jyito da is right, September / October is really great time to visit Darjeeling / Sikkim. Clear sky and temp is expected around 8 to 10 degree C (September). There are so many threads regarding this part of India in West Bengal section – those will give you some helpful tips to decide the itinerary / hotel etc.

Hi, we did this a couple of years ago by shared jeep. Make sure that you're riding shotgun, don't look back (to the other 15 people in the jeep), don't look beside you (as there is nothing there) and donate money to a temple befoer and after the trip. It will be breathtaking, if not for the views....
