My words are limited in all sense ...
Already there ... during 5/4/2012 to 12/4/2012
Route: NJP - Loleygaon - Rishop - Neora Valley - Lava - Sillerygaon - Ariter - Zuluk - Kupup - Tsomogo - Gangtok - NJP
Only problem was Camera & weather - totally covered with clouds but enjoyed the Zuluk to Gangtok travelling ... journey of a life time ... experienced continuous snowfall for more than 2 hours.
My travelogue of Silk Route (4/2012) & Kinnaur-Lahul-Spiti (7/2011) are due ... ofcourse ...

continuous snowfall for more than 2 hours - well, we're yet to experience any snowfall. So, congrats.

Could you see the rhododendrons ?

Rhododendron... Hummm....

Suraj (elder son of Gopal Pradhan) showed us 1-2 varieties of rhododendron amongst 31-32 available but that was not the proper time for blooming of flower. All we can watch after Thambi ... snow & snow ... all white ... very difficult to watch outside when Sun God was appeared with 30-40% of his capacity. Our driver (Suraj Tamang) was also busy with his car, road & giving sides to Army Trucks.

Then what's the best time to visit Zuluk for seeing rhododendrons ? May ? We didn't get a clear answer from them.

Actually, the answer should be something like that...

Rhododendrons are best viewed in Yumthang ...

Jan - Mar (first half) are best for Snow bound Zuluk.
April is not the proper time, though one can witness some amount of snow but Mt. Kanchenjunga (range) may not be visible in most of the days.
June & July may be best time towards flowers blooming of Rhododendrons in Zuluk; the place used to be green (... chance of landslide enroute exists due pick hour of monsoon). But no snow enroute will make it dull if someone is not an avid traveller.
If rain is not making it difficult July - September will be the best period for Rhododendron.
In October - December, the weather used to be clear for seeing the whole range of Mt. Kanchenjunga but the valley will be looked like barren with the reddish colour around.

If someone wants Rhododendron, Greenery (Lush Green valley around), Water fall & snow; sorry to inform you ... the combination is not possible at all.

Segregate a year into 4 parts & try to roam there freely to explore nature with her varieties.

Confusing .... I am confused also ...........

Hi mousourik

I have planed the below iteneary for May5th-May13th'16.Would be travelling with my parents.

6thMay-Reach NJP and move to Pedong
7thMay-SightSeing In Pedong
8th-Move to Rishyap
9th-Do a tour of Lava and Loleygaon, night halt in Rishyap
10th-Move to Ramdhura
11th-Do a tour of Aritar, return back to Ramdhura
12-Move to Kalimpong.Do sightseing enroute
13-Return train for Howrah

I have few questions
1)Should I book a cab for the entire trip from Kolkata?Contacted an operator but it seems prices would be inflated.
So in that case can I book a cab in Pedong for the trip till Kalimpong?Or should it be booked from NJP?
2)Can we do a trip to Rishi and Sillery Gaon from Pedong?
3)Would doing a tour of Aritar from Ramdhura feasible?

I read on IM many people vote for Sillery Gaon over Ramdhura but one of my collegues recently visited Ramdhura and he was very very impressed by the majestic views of Mt K.
Rather he found SilleryGaon overhyped.Should I keep Ramdhura as a stay option given I am already spending two days in Kalimpong?

I am planning to book Jelepla Village Resort in Pedong.
Bhutia Homestay in Ramdhura
Morgan House in Kalimpong
Any suggestions for Rishyap?I am looking for WBFDC cottages in Rishayp though not sure about their actual locations.

Thanks
Aurjoma
