Latest update from borong 2 days back

Back from borong trip, i stayed there for two days.

Started from Ghonday vilage Kaluk, took the route to legship, diverted to see biksthang and mangalbarey, and enroute saw the hotsprings and finally to borong. Coming to the Nitty gritty.

1. Enroute to borong you might come across a proprety called county inn, ie not the actual place.

2. You need to go further downhill to a distance of about 7 kms to reach borong proper. it is a typical sikkimese village complete with cute huts cottages and extreme wilderness. On the main road you will come across a resort called the Wildflower resort, i remember seeing westerners and indians alike emerging from the cottages, so the booking might be open, try googling they have a website.

3. Few steps away from the wildflower resort, the road diverges to two, one leading up to a hillock and the other downroads to remote villages. Take the former, it will lead you up a distance of 2 KMs to the brang resort. Exceedingly expensive. Newly built. The cottages are perched again on a small hillock and the reception below. The disadvantages are:

a. poor service, intercoms dont work you need to run up and down the hillock for anything.

b. the staff are a disinterested lot, and the manager a miniature clown.

c. prices run at 40 rs a papad, the room rents are exceeding 3000 inr.

d. Any veggie dish you order is merely boiled veggies added to masala water, meaning the dishes are pathetic.

e. Found a huge arachnid hidden in my room, grasses are leech infested, the entrance door has a gap from the floor and a convenient entry point for venomous snakes

f. commodes lack handshowers just a single mug that you need to use for your toilet as well to have a bath with.

Pluses
1. The property is cute and romantic, you can dance the night away with your partner

2. The view of kanchendzonga is unmatched after a rainy night. Cells dont work.

Suggestion:
If after the above you decide to go, fine, take care. More importantly leave your kids behind, for it is truly romantic.

precise name

Cutiepie: It is called the Brang mountain resort.

Sikkim is such a catacomb of roadways that only seasoned drivers can make it. Borong is too offbeat. The only way i know is the way i made it in my exclusively hired cab via Nature Beyond. It was from kaluk. I detoured to biskthan and mangalbarey then to borong. I presume we made it to legship, then to ravangla, and finally to borong.

Take extreme care between ravangla and borong for the road is exceedinly poor and narrow and passes through a wildlife sanctuary. Second half of the road after ravangla is so poor and paved with stones that the jerks are enough to give you a abdominal pain. Dont take pregnant ladies up the road.

On a lighter note En route from the resort to the borong monastery, i saw a novice monk flirting tenderly with four girls, he makes his appearance every evening, and you might get to see the renegade!!!

The contact number for Brang is Mr. Satyam: 09733131677

shared cabs

Regarding my overall opinion of shared cabs in sikkim for what i have seen, most start from either siliguri or jorethang.

1. It is exceedingly cramped
2. The people boarding might leave you asphyxiated with unhygieinic body odor and stench of tobacco
3. Luggage if heavy can be a problem
4. You might not get the best view of the valleys
5. You might not have the privacy with your spouse
6. Shared cabs are meant to cut down expenses, but a little expense goes a long way in rejuvenating your spirit
7. There is no gurantee you might get a shared cab for offbeat destinations, you might reach the destination, but can you make the return
8. With a exclusive cab, it is at your disposal to roam around where you please and at what time

brang

I think not, for the construction is relatively new. Even the plumbing work is incomplete. One thing i forgot to mention, they have a good library of over 100 reader's digest books and plenty of coffee table books. Each cottage is named after a himalayan peak. Mine was called daulagiri. There are beautiful wall hangings of each peak in the respective rooms, stating the statistics and view from different angles. The reception room is huge with plenty of portraits of various peaks. Just to give you a glimpse of the ambience of borong.

1. A pretty cottage with opposing windows, one looking at a hillock with bamboo groves and limbu houses, another facing the himalayas.

2. Supplied with candles incase of a power off, but take care not to light candles for too long for it can consume the meager oxygen.

3. Perpetual rains, all you can do is have snacks and coffee. The view of himalayas post rain is great. Sometimes the rain lashes in the nights.

4. They provide you with huge umbrellas in event of rain.

5. It is most expensive in sikkim.

The road from kaluk to borong and from borong to darap is filled with plenty of waterfalls. I would advise you to switch on to Movie mode in your camera throughout your travel in sikkim, from the van, or even while photographing the property. This ensures your sentiments never die.

I knew for sure that there are only 2 resorts in Borong, hence i dug up this info.
