Question Some queries about honeymoon trip to N. Sikkim during Sept. 2nd week....

Hi All,

Before I get to the topic, let me first tell you that you guys just rock! I haven't seen another forum (travel related or otherwise) where you find such an abundance of knowledgeable *and* supportive community members.

Getting to the point. I am planning a honeymoon trip from Sept. 14 till Sept 21st, which gives me 6 full days for sightseeing. We are coming all the way from Bangalore, so our main aim is to squeeze the maximum out of this trip. I had the following worries regarding the timing of the trip:

1) I came to know via Yahoo Weather, as well as the travel agent, that it is raining pretty heavily there. Yahoo is also predicting cloudy days for the week I am going. So, will this mean that our trip would be ruined? We had heard a lot about the scenic beauty of Sikkim and the view of Kanchendzonga, so it would really kill us to miss all that to rain.

2) Hailing from South India, snow is something that holds an exotic charm for us. Is it possible to see snow anywhere in N.Sikkim, at this time of the year?

3) One of the travel agents mentioned that it would cost me Rs.1500/- per place extra for visiting Yumasangdang and Katao. So, can I stick to visiting just one of these places or do I really need to visit both?
Thanks in advance.

P.S. : I did see some posts here that were on a similar topic, but none of those seemed to give a conclusive answer.

Also visit Mangan.

In the matters of rain, I doubt anyone can really help. From what I read from afar, I gather monsoons have been late in coming in many parts of the country. I have only visited it once, eons ago - and that too in 'pujo' season

1. if it rains, then surely u will not get kanchenzonga .. but north sikkim is famous for some other reasons.. it has that kind of landscpae (in the way of gurudongmar) which is only comparable to Ladakh.. if it rains in the night then there is higher chance of getting snows in tibetian plateau after thangu (a place 16 kms from Gurudongmar Lake)in the morning.

2. Katao and Yumasangdang both are very near to yumthang. If you are sharing a jeep (as the tourists do normally)from Gangtok, then it will cost Only 100 Rs Extra Per person. But In case You have booked an entire jeep /Sumo then the same should be around rs 1000/- extra.

3. Dont be worried at all for the rain.. If it happens Go for the Rain Drenched North Sikkim.. It will be an experience..

The Only bad Thing is the Land Slides.. which can cause some difficulties.. But tour operaors of North Sikkim are aware of this and if the situation is really bad due to rain, they will not organize any tour from Gangtok itself..

in 6 days you can cover north sikkim, nathuka and local tour.
charges for katao and zero point are extra.
if you want to see snow(for sure), you may go to katao.
as regards weather, we all know it rains from june to sep in india.
oct -nov apr-may is ideal time to visit sikkim.

In case its raining heavy u should avoid North Sikkim completely...
its a very difficult terrain and maximum accidents happen during rains...

i know you may not like hearing this but its better to be realistic...

you need a backup plan in case its rainiangt heavily...u can spend some worderfu time in gangtok...book the best hotel there ..royal denmzong or something by that name...so u can enjoy gangtok...

PLs you can try for West Sikkim...pelling and other places....

For North Sikkim have a [post which u can visit

Comprehensive Information for a North Sikkim Trip!!!
