Snow in early November
Hi all,
First of all I would like to say that this forum has been very helpful to me as I intend to visit Sikkim between 1st Nov and 10 Nov 2007. I am traveling with my parents from Bangalore and since we are traveling on our own till Gangtok, the information here has made us more confident on doing this. But from what I've read here I gather that we will not come in contact with snow during our travels to Gangtok or to North Sikkim. This is very disappointing as that is one of the main purposes of the trip. I would be grateful if somebody could shed more light on this and if there is any place in Sikkim which will have snow all round the year because we have plenty of time for traveling. |

Its very unlikely that you'll come in contact with snow so early in season. Try out Zero Point beyond Yumthang and Thangu but again you'll have to be real lucky to find snow even in these remote places.
Last Saturday, we got snowfall in Dzongri and Thansing during our trek .... it was horrible weather. But the snow didn't stay for long ... all the places mentioned above are of comaprable altitude, so by November mid, you might get snowfall in these places of north sikkim. Try out your luck All the best and have a safe and nice trip |

Your response is much appreciated, even though it was not exactly the answer I was hoping for.
It is too late now to postpone the trip. I remember visiting Manali about five years ago, around the same time of the year. We found snow at Rohtang Pass. Hopefully we will get lucky again. |

You can postpone the trip even now ... something in early december would be ideal ... you'll get confirmed snow in the higher places ... also since december is start of off season, finding hotels won't be a problem ... but the main problem is likely to be the tickets from your place to sikkim.

In case people wanted to know, I visited Sikkim in the first week of November and found plenty of snow at Katao and also on the way to zero point(Yumsemdong).
