Sikkim: Would I be able to confirm the dates of the festivals in June?

i followed this calender here for sikkim and all the dates seemed to be different. without a confirmation of the dates, i may not be able to plan an itinerary to sikkim as the duration might be just 12-14 days. i wonder if anyone here can help to give some guidance on how to check out the exact dates.

thanks for the information. due to restriction in one of my partner's leave, we will be having a trip to calcutta - sikkim - darjeeling - calcutta from 6 to 17th june. i'm hoping to see rumtek chaams and i wonder if the car festival in mahesh (near calcutta) due in june/july will conincide with the itinerary.

i ran into the exact same problem when i was trying to plan an itinerary around the losar festivities and corresponding rumtek chaam. i somehow managed to find an email addy for the rumtek monastery and contacted them directly. i was delighted to get a prompt reply telling me exactly when the chaam were and which day would be the "best" to attend. try this addy for the rumtek monastery office: damang[at]rumtek[dot]org, but i don't know if it's still current and active--my trip was in february 2007.

good luck!

sorry, have not replied as i'm taking exams and there has been much changes of the group, going to ladakh instead, via himachal pradesh.

anyway, after checking the tibetan and western calender, the date of the rumtek chaams should be on 2008 Jun 13.

up to you, of course, but i'll again suggest you contact the monastery directly just to be sure of the "best" day to attend. knowing from the tibetan calendar when losar fell still didn't tell me precisely when to expect the most festivities.
