the "short hike" is more of a short stroll from the parking area to the ruins. a year later, it's hard to recall how long it took--maybe 15 minutes?

to appreciate the ruins, you should read a bit about them first. otherwise, just seeing them and wandering around won't be a particularly compelling experience. there's a fairly new building onsite that was locked when i was there (and i was the only person there). peering in the window, i saw that the interior was being painted and there were some interesting tablets leaning against the walls on the floor--perhaps an exhibit in the making?

Kickass site, must say! alas no mention of gangtok/kalimpong.
Not sure if I can take 'shiliguri' or jalpaiguri as a close match. Their altitudes dont say they are comparable!
