Sikkim trekking in April

Hi all,
Coming from Assam I will be in Sikkim around 5th til 20th of April. I have a 15 days' permit for Sikkim but don't know exactly which areas are off limits for Europeans. I would be interested in at least 10 days' trekking in Sikkim. Any information about best trekkings and agencies is most welcome. Usually it's a lot cheaper with a group of 4 people. So, if I can find two more people who'd like to join in that period, please let me know.
PS Thanks Somnath for previous useful information here!
Thanks
JP

A foreigner is permiited to tour/Trek Sikkim for 15days, as far as trekking is concerned i beleive you can work on this itinerary

Day 01: NJP/IXB-Pelling
Day 02:Pelling-Yuksom
Day 03:Yuksom-Bakhim
Day 04:Bakhim-Dzongri
Day 05zongri
Day 06zongri-Thangsing
Day 07:Thangsing-Samiti Lake
Day 08:Samithilake-Kokokchu
Day 09:Kokokchu-Bakhim
Day 10:Bakhim-Yuksom
Day 11:Yuksom-NJP/Bagdogra

For four i beleive you will get a good deal, as April is the peaktime so a deal of Rs.1800 per person per day will be a fair deal.

You can also apperantly get your permit extended 2 * 15 days, totaling
45 days.

But you have to go back to Gangtok to do it .

Happy for you! Have a great trip and please let us know how it goes!

Hi!!
Nice to hear from you, you are right, i had a trip to the same route and lokking forward for another this spring. You know Eastern Himalayas has a different charm of its. You are bound to experience something new and unknown or unseen in every single trip you take to this region.

Thanks once again for your advice, but my quotation was made for debrac, as he/she was looking for a 10days programme.

Here's a "heads up" for people planning to travel in Sikkim this April.

I just read that the Dalai Lama is planning to visit there around April 20, so this could mean that hotels and guesthouses will be filling up and it would be hard to make bookings. It also might mean tighter security, which could make permits harder to get, but I don't know about that - just speculating.

Anyway, I think it's apparently been a while since the Dalai Lama was in that area, so a lot of people in the Sikkim/West Bengal area are likely to be pretty cranked up about the visit.

Dear dzibead,
Dalai Lama had visited sikkim earlier and many times after fleeing Tibet, but that doesnot mean that there will shortage of accommodation or permits in Sikkim.

One can easily obtain permits for Sikkim.

Namaste,
No, it was not possible earlier as I was trekking in Langtang and Helambu.
I just come back in Ktm today, and I probably leave for Darjeeling Friday 8th, if ther is no strike.
Anyway, have a good trip.

I trekked in Sikkim in March and it was beautiful. We were one of the first groups on the trail that year.
I paid $20 US a day. I would expect this to have increased a bit over the last couple of years.
You won't find too many treks more spectacular than up to Samiti Lake and Goecha La.

Check out my gallery for some shots of that exact trek.
(Although I didn't climb Goecha La in the end.)

Cheers

Rob the Pom,
How was that treck??

I was planning on being there around march...

How was the weather/temperature at that time??

Also, you mentioned that you paid $20 a day to treck up there..

Did that include the tent and all your gear?

The LP 2005 states it cost $30-$50usd a day, which is more than I want to afford.

could you please share your experiences??

Aloha
