Sikkim: Taxi Operators needed

Hi Guys,

I need to book a taxi in Gangtok for 5 days / 4nights for West/South Sikim in Jan end.

Day 1: Gangtok to Pelling (Norbu Ghnag Resort)
Day 2: Sight seeing nearby monastries
Day 3: Pelling to Ravangla (Mt narsing resort)
Day 4: Nearby Monastries
Day 5: Ravangla to Bagdogra Airport via Darjeeling (just to catch a glimpse )..

Does anyone how much taxi guy will charge for a exclusive Tata Sumo/Mahindra Maxx ? and where can I book ?

My suggestion is that don't prebook. There are plenty of operators in Gangtok, check the rates, compare, bargain and finalise after inspecting the condition of the vehicle and a chat with the driver.

One thing in Jan end I talked to Modern Residency people in Lachung..that guy is asking 14K (discount 30% on 20K) for 3 nights /4 days North Sikkim Tour (Accomodation/food/Eclusive vechile). One night in lachen and two in lachung.

Is this deal OK ?

Would NathuLa Possible in Jan end ?

14K for how many people? Accomodation at Lachung is limited, I don't know this Modern Residency place. I had pre-booked and I was put up at a place in Lachung which resembled a stable rather than a guest house so make sure what kind of accomodation you are being offered.
Do a search and see if you can find some good accomodation info here. Note these down. Like I said earlier arrange your tour in Gangtok and see if you can get an offer with accomodation at one of these recommended places.
About Nathu La in Jan end I have my doubts. I wasn't impressed with Nathu La myself, the lake on the way was very beautiful. Do visit the temple of Baba.

i read they have rood reputation..
At lachen the guy (manager of modern residency) said it has basic accomodation but the room has attached toilet and hot water..

Ya I read your experince of Sikkim ..that was good for my planning..now i will definitely try Fish Chips at bagdogra airport..

At Gangtok I am planning to see Baba Mandir/Rumtek Monastries/Changu Lake and Nathula..will see if other are possible or not..

So where are you planning next trek in Himalayas ?

hmm..that(Satopanth Tal..Am i right ?) would be pretty easy as compared to KK..

so Lachung hotel hotel looks OK ?
should I go for deal ? how much u paid for north sikkim tour ?

I checked the link, the hotel looks good. What caught my attention is "hot water bottles extra" Please check if they have any form of heating, Jan in north Sikkim would be very cold.

No, 14K is somewhere in the upperside. As this is offseason, you are bound to get discount. In peak season time its Rs.1800.00 per head i.e, 18000K (10 heads). So it comes to 12.6K. or round it off with 13K. But 14K is worth it visiting Switzerland of East.......an unforgettable moment.

I found out, I paid Rs.8500 for two persons for Gangtok-Lachung-Yumthang-Gangtok. That included two of us in the front seat of a 4wd jeep, two couples from Kolkata on the back seats. Accomodation in a stable and food which I better not talk about. Later on I found out that those couples from Kolkata had bargained and paid much less than I paid when I booked the tour from Delhi.
Any way the sheer beauty of the place made up for all the misery.
That was I think 4 years ago.

you certainly paid a hefty amount and that too in off season.
just know that its 1800/- per head for 2nights 3days and 900/- for 1 night 2days. and its 10 person in each Vehicle.
Also to mention that its not worth staying lavishly or with all the facilities of the world or in the best hotel is not the point here. But I dont know much about hotel in lachen coz i havent been there. i have only been till lachung.

14K I am paying for exclusive vechile ....no body else in the vechile..we will stop the vechile at our will for click and shoot.

I think I will fialise it..modern residency looks good..

In Pelling/Ravangla/Gangtok in all hotels I am getting 30% discount in January..

In Gangtok I am little confused to choose hotel..on IM people recommend Bayul terrace room..

Howz Tashi Delek & Chumbi Residency?

Robin I had been there in October so it was high season I suppose and yes I did pay more than what others paid, that's a price one often pays while booking on internet.

We stayed at the Sikkim tourism's hotel in Gangtok, good location and reasonable tarrif.
