sikkim permit

Hi all,

I know this has been done over and over, but after reading the threads I am still confused.

I applied for and received my tourist visa in Sydney. I included with the application a request for a Sikkim inner line permit, however was informed that the sydney consulate do not issue ILPs and that I would need to obtain one in India.

My itnerary takes me from Delhi to Bagdogra to Sikkim. I have only one day in Delhi, so I'm wary of spending it at Sikkim House waiting on a permit. Does anyone know how long the process takes?

Is it possible to obtain the permit at Bagdogra? Or enroute from Bagdogr to Gangtok? I read about Rangpo - is this on the route from Bagdogra to Gangtok?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You can apply in Darjeeling - don't know what an inner line permit is, but a standard Sikkim permit is available so I assume the other is possible. Takes 2-3 hours and two separate offices.

as you are in Delhi for a day and you could get your permit in Delhi itself at Sikkim house which is just behind American embassy and it just takes some time about some hours there is a Sikkim government tourist office there . and if possible ask to stay there for a night too its cheap and clean lol!!! . and also you could get your 14 days permit from rangpo which is the border of Bengal and Sikkim . and an entry point to Sikkim . or you could also get it from siliguri at the Sikkim national transport office(SNT) and thats where you get bus or vehicle going to Gangtok which is much cheaper . so you could have your ilp from any of these places . you get 15 days permit and later you can extend for 15 more days which is new .

hope was of help if you need more info just post down here . shall be happy to help .

Smile Sikkim Permit

Dont worry you can easily get one. When you arrive at Bagdhora airport you can do one of two things. 1. You can continue your journey to Sikkim [ Gangtok ] by shared jeep / taxi and at the border checkpost Rangpo you will make a stop for a tea break. Ignore the official looking buildings on the right and walk up the hill 1/2 km. on the LEFT you will see a large hotel this is where the Permit Office is. It should take about 15 mins to get a permit. The permit is for 15 days which you can extend in Gangtok. Treking permit is from the agents. If you decide to go into New Jalpaiguri [ NJP] to get your permit you will therefore have to time your visit to when the office is open in which case you might have to spend the night. The offfice is located at the far end of town over the 'bridge' [past Airview Hotel rt.side]and where the taxi /jeep stands [left side] for Darjeeling / Gangtok are located, its further along on the LEFT. I believe its Transport House? You can of course go to Darjeeling and get it from there, once again if you get a taxi / jeep for Gangtok from there they too will stop at the border Rangpo and its back to my first suggestion.

...why a child of four can understand that...go out and get me a child of four!
