Sikkim October clothing advice

Will be traveling to Sikkim in October for a couple of weeks. Hope to do some day trekking in North Sikkim if possible. I'm packing thermals, a microfleece and a microfleece jacket, plus t-shirts etc. Will I be warm enough??
If I need anything warmer or waterproof ie. gortex jacket or down jacket - could I hire or buy in the area?
Thanks

hmmm...seems your post has gone without a reply for a few days. i was in sikkim only in february, which was quite cold. for october, i'd surmise that what you've described would be adequate. do peruse other threads in this sub-forum, which might be helpful.

i'm sorry i can't be of more help, but i'm sure the sikkim trekkers will be along before much longer with better information. somnath? bhaswaran? dzibead? jyotirmoy? where art thou?

good luck with your planning.

Your clothing seems adequate for October, which is not much of cold but clear skies with good views of the mountains. I am not sure about buying clothing in Sikkim. It is better if you bring them with you. The trekking routes in North Sikkim is less traversed and will require permits. it is better to go with agencies who conduct them. There are some in Gangtok. You might be planning to Donkiala Pass or the Green Lake. They are very rewarding, as well as challenging.

Search in google about trekking in North Sikkim, especially Green Lake/Zemu glacier and you will come accross some of their contacts. I will get it to you if I get them.

regards,

Bhaswaran
