Well I need to know a few things about Sikkim, am planning a to visit the place:
1)Can you go to Pelling or Yuksom from NJP/Siliguri by road, as in jeeps? 2)And if there r bookings to be done for places to put up in then how do i go about them? 3)A low budget estimate would be very helpful. 4)What would be the places to visit once in a)Pelling or b)Yuksom (i'll be staying in either one of these places for 2 full days). Looking fwd to the info...need it!! |

Hi L I
Here are the answer to your questiones: 1)Can you go to Pelling or Yuksom from NJP/Siliguri by road, as in jeeps? T.C Says: Yes 2)And if there r bookings to be done for places to put up in then how do i go about them? T.C Says: visit travel sites viz: indiamart and contact traveller agents of North Bengal, for rates or search for hotels in the same portal. 3)A low budget estimate would be very helpful. T.C Says:depends on several factors i.e time of visit, duration, hote category, meal plan, sightseeing options & mode of travel between places. 4)What would be the places to visit once in a)Pelling or b)Yuksom (i'll be staying in either one of these places for 2 full days). T.C Says:Pelling is more infested by people, but Yuksom is more sublime and peaceful, Yuksom is the base of West Sikkim Treks (Dzongri, Goechala,Rathong..) Happy travelling |

Hi,
Can't answer on Yuksom, contact Somnath by PM, he knows a lot about Sikkim. We stayed at Pelling for one night and that's probably sufficient to see the ruins at Rabdentse and Pemayangtse monastry, there isn't much else there. It's a pleasant enough place with nice views and I wouldn't say it was exactly 'infested' with people, although it was mid-winter and quite cold. I do hear that Yuksom is more tranquil. Ditto what TC says about budget - it really depends how you want to travel. We had arrangements made through Clubside Tours in Darjeeling, they were excellent. We stayed at the Norbu Ghang resort which was very nice, good restaurant, individual cabins on the hillside with great views http://sikkiminfo.net/norbughang/

From NJP station can take a rickshaw to SNT (Sikkim National. Transprt, Just opst. to Tenjing Norgey Bus Trmns.) > Share jeep is available for Jorthang (it took 80.00 or 70.00 / head) > From Jorthang: a) Share jeep for Yuksom (700.00 reserved jeep and 70.00 / head in share) b) I didn't find a direct share jeep service to Pelling (you can reserve one) else take the share jeep service via Legship and Gezing. Ya Pelling is a bit crowded as mentioned by TQ and TC but I find the view of Kanchendzongha from here is one of the best. |
