Sikkim in Nov

I am planning to visit Darjeeling and Sikkim between 27 Oct to 8 Nov 2007 (i.e. just before Diwali) with my wife and 7 yr old daughter.

Is this time good for the visit? Will it be cold? What is the temperature generally during this period? Does it rain during this period? Does it snow during this period?

Will it be too crowded during this period because of Diwali?

Will trip to Lachung, Lachen and Gurudongmar lake suitable during this period? Is it advisable for a 7 yr old kid? Do we have to carry oxygen cylinders etc for these areas?

Is Apr-May period more suitable for Sikkim visit or above (Oct-Nov) period? If Apr-May is good, then I will probably wait for that.

You will be having good views of the mountains and will be able to go to the places mentioned by you. However, it will be cold. SO, be prepared.

Oxygen cylinders won't be required. Some people do suffer from altitude sickness at Nathu La. This year both Durga Puja & Diwali are late so expect tourists.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Does it snow in Sikkim generally during late Oct - Early Nov?
How cold it is during the period? Does it go below 0?

It won't snow during that time. It won't be that cold either
I think its better to go in oct-nov because the sky will be clearer and u'll get better views but do pre-book hotels as it'll be crowded. U need not prebook the north sikkim trip.
the trip to north sikkim is planned so as to allow u to acclimatise gradually and u won't need oxygen, u'll be going beyond 12000ft only for a very short time
If u go to Gurudongmar ,its at 17000+ft, so u might have a slight discomfort (but its worth the try) and it might be cold even in broad daylight (mainly because of the winds blowing from Tibet, so make sure u cover urself up well)
I think ur daughter won't have much of a problem getting used to the height
