Sikkim in may

hi ,

i am planning a 10 day trip to sikkim from 1st to 10th. east and north sikkim. will travel alone...

would be greatfull, if some one can help out with the following:

1) Is is safe to travel alone in this area.
2) Want to travel really cheap. what are the modes of travel within sikkim. cant afford a taxi. hiring bike or state buses.
3) are 10 days good enough to cover seom good locations for photography- Flowers, Monast, Landscapes, wildlife.
4) Will 15 k good if i reach gangtok by sleeper train.

Yes Sikkim is pretty safe.
The cheapest option will be to buy a seat in a jeep run by the tour operators for your north Sikkim trip. There are hordes of operators in Gangtok, bargain hard. Also remember that May is peak holiday season rush.
10 days are good enough.

can you tell us how to proceed for a 3 day 2 noght north sikkim trip. we are not pre booking any agent.how much it costs. we want an exclusive vehicle for us.

Normally on a sharing basis(say around 5-6 people in a jeep),it will cost you app. 3K/head for everything. So the total cost of North Sikkim in a jeepfor 3D/2N comes around 18K

Hi Rajdesh,
I need an exclusive vehicle for us. How much will that cost? Should I prebook in my case or go and search for operators/vehicles there. Won't getting permits and all be a problem in a day. I reach Gangtok on Thursday and plan to start for north sikkim trip next day morning.
My travel itinerary is:-
Day 1:- Gangtok to lachen with all sightseeing midway
Day 2:- Lachen to Thangu-Chopta valley-Gurudongmar lake-Lachung
Day 3:- Lachung-Katao-Yumthang-Gangtok

Is the plan feasible? I want to see these in 3 days.What special permits i need for these? Is carrying ID proof a necessity?
Also Day 4:- Plan is to see Changu Lake in morning and return to NJP by 7 PM. Is that possible?
Please suggest.

Make sure that in any Jeep in the area, you are in the front beside the driver (with only one other person sharing the seat max) and that you never look back at the 23 three persons that occupy the rest of the Jeep.

Hi Rajdesh ,
Are the drivers reliable and do they act as trip guides also. If we exclusively book a vehicle will it ensure that we can roam around north sikkim as we like or tour operator will call the shots?

I'm new to IndiaMike. And I have no knowledge of Sikkim. But I really want to do a 10 day trip in SIkkim (including North Sikkim) in the first half of May. I spoke to a Sikkimese friend of mine and she told me that in May it may be raining and there maybe landslides etc., But she hasn't been living there for a while and she's not entirely sure. Does anyone know about this? What are the chances of encountering rain and landslides ?

Also Can anyone suggest a good itinerary for us. We're budget travellers, and are mostly looking to go "off the beaten path" types. Some trekking would be good, and most importantly we want to imbibe as much of the local culture as possible.

We're planning to fly to Kolkata, take a train to NJP, and proceed from there. We'll probably take shared taxis from NJP to Gangtok. What are the cheap options for getting between places in Sikkim? We prbably can't afford to hire a taxi exclusively for ourselves. What would that leave us with? Would those options be available for North Sikkim as well?

Okay, too many questions! i'll stop now.
