Unhappy Sikkim in July 2nd week? Good idea?

Hi all

I have just joined this forum and i found it veru useful. I am getting married in July 1st week and i am planning to go on a trip to Gangtok in July 2nd week ( Actually booked th hotel in gantok and flight tickets from Hyderabad to Kolkatta)

Through some ofthe threads i found out that there would be rains in July 2nd week. So i thought i would take your advice regarding my plan.

Day 1 - Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok

Day 2 - Gangtok Local sight Seeing; Overnight at Gangtok

Day 3- Tsomgo Lake, Nathula and Baba Mandir; Overnight at Gangtok

Day 4 - Gangtok to Lachung; Overnight at Lachung

Day 5 - Lachung local sight seeing and Yumthung; Overnight at Lachung

Day 6 - Lachung to Gantok; Overnight at Gangtok

Day 7 - Gantok to Pelling; Overnight at Pelling

Day 8 - Pelling Local sight seeing; Overnight at Pelling

Day 9 - Pelling to Bagdogra Airport

According to some of the mails in this forum Pelling would be cloudy in July and might be having rain.

Do you think we should do Darjeeling instead of Pelling?

How would Gangtok and Yumthung be July 2nd week; w.r.t to rainfall. In the worst case i might have to even cancel the flight and hotel at Gantok?

Please advice.

Thanks a lot

Sandeep

hi sandeep

congratulations in advance! :-)

you've got a good itinerary for your trip.
yes, july will be wet.
it may rain all day or it may rain in the 2nd half of the day or it may not rain at all (if you are lucky)

many of the places in sikkim would be cloudy during that time so the views would be a trifle restricted unfortunately.
north sikkim would be slightly drier compared to gangtok and surrounding areas.

pelling is a lovely place. around the town, you can visit the monastery and the ruins of the old sikkim palace (rabdantse).
you could also take a look at the rangit falls and kanchenjungha falls which will be at their peak during that time.
it should be a rush! :-)

so, you would miss out on a few sights if you were to give pelling a skip.

however, the choise is yours.
you may want a change of scenery so to speak and want to visit darjeeling instead of pelling.
but there's no guarantee of the weather at darjeeling either!

sorry if i have not been able to help make up your mind.
but just thought that you may want to know the facts.

cheers
toby

hmm.. I would not advice Sikkim in July. It will most likely be very wet all the time and you may not be able to get out much. You should probably consider some other place.

Hi Sandeep,
What a coincidence!!! I am also getting married in July and planning to visit Gangtok and around in July (15th onwards..). My plan is still in initialization phase, but I share the same concerns as yours regarding the weather.

I talked to some of my friend's friends ()in Gangtok, and the answer is it'll be intermittent rain (no deluge or heavy rains) during that time..So you can plan your trip with a cool mind.

I have a question to you: Are you taking any profession travel agent's help regarding the hotel booking/travel modes etc, or you are relying on net? This info will be helpful for me to close down some issues.
My trip is shorter (4-5 days) so I am going to be selective.

with rgds,
deepak
