Hi,

This is my first post on this site. I am planning to visit Sikkim with Yumthang Valley, Darjeling, Kalimpong and Peling. I am reaching Bagdogra on 17th June and returning on 26th June 2011. Request suggestions for tour plan and hotel/ tour operators in the region. We are a group of 20 members including children and elderly, not looking for fancy hotels would rather prefer neat & clean budget accomodation.

Not very keen to spend too much of time/ nights at Gangtok & Darjeling.

Look forward to suggestions from people who know the area.

Thanking in advance.

hi sudhir,

your tour seem to be very hectic and tiring....travelling would be too much to bear..for elderly and kids due to mountains roads. What i would suggest that u cover sikkim for now...and Darjeeling and others next time...This will make ur trip and comfortable one...specially for all age groups

21st June - Yumthang Valley & Zeropoint (If interested)
22nd June - Gangtok + Local Sight seeing
23rd June - Nathula, Babamandir & Changu Lake
24th June - Pelling + Local Sight seeing
25th June - Pelling to Silguri ( Takes 5hrs easily)
26th June - Bagdogra

I would say, skip Kalimpong also if you are skipping Darjeeling. BOth can be covered together later. As of this trip, just do the Sikkim part.

17th June - Gangtok. Overnite at Gangtok.
18th June - Tsomgo,Nathula,Baba Mandir
19th June - Local Sighseeing
20th June - Gantok to Lachung
21st June - Yumthang,Zero Point, Yumesamdong - Travel to Lachen
22nd June - Gurudongmar Lake. Back to Gangtok.
23rd June - Gangtok to Pelling
24th June - Pelling Local Sightseeing
25th June - Pelling or Kaluk.
26th June- Back to Bagdogra.

If you want you can extend a day at Lachung or Lachen on 23rd , instead of staying another day at Pelling/Kaluk on 25th June

Thanks Shubra,

Problem is that it is very difficult for so many people in the group to have common dates for holidays, would like to fix maximum destinations with minimum discomfort. If you have to advise skipping few destination you will skip Darjeling leg or Yumthang part?

I'd skip Darjeeling ANY day for the other 2. I may even skip Switzerland for Yumthang!! Don't miss a chance to be there!

Hi,

As my date of travel is approaching close, I am getting lot of nervous queries from fellow members in the group about the monsoon in the area. I would request any recent visitor or local from the area about the current weather condition and likely hood in next 3 weeks? also if any experienced visitor can throw some light, whether lachen/lachung/yumthang is possible during rains?

Waiting eagerly for responses.

Although I understand the importance of first hand info about weather from fellow travellers, here's a weather prediction thread that you can check :

http://www.indiamike.com/india/off-t...tes-t97814/31/

Don't go by the name of the thread, it started as a snowfall updatethread, but is more of a weather update thread now. Post you query, I am sure Vaibhav Kaul, a master in predicting weather will help you out. His predictions are mostly accurate.

Hope this helps,

Sagarneel.

Brother, this part of the world is really unpredictable. You can see a clear sky in the night and be assured of a bright sunshine in the morning and wake up only to realise that the sun is not to be seen for the entire day amidst heavy downpour. However, I would suggest you to go for it. And keep yourself detarmined. I have covered the North in the month of August once. Although the rain gods seemed to be baffled with me throughout the trip, but it was worth. My take on it, Go ahead with a strong will.
I am only responsible for what I say, and not what you understand
