Sikkim: ATMs /money changing?

Please could someone tell me if there are ATMs in Gangtok and Pelling? And if not, whether there are money changing facilities in each place?

Thanks.

There is NOTHING in Pelling. My wife and I were there in Oct 2007. It is by far the worst town I visited in Sikkim. They did have an ATM, but it was never open, maybe that has changed by now.

Gangtok has many ATMs, mostly on MG Marg which is probably where you'll be staying anyway. If you go to Gangtok look for Masala Restaurant...it is divine. It's pure veg, but oh so good!

Have fun!

Wow, it's only a small village.... what were you expecting... a metro railway? skyscrapers?

Didn't the spectacular view of the Himalayas being lit up by the rising sun even cheer you up slightly?

atm's are ubiquitous (relatively speaking) in gangtok. pelling's another matter. at least when i was there a year ago, there weren't any. so when the credit-card-processing system was down at my hotel (norbu ghang)--a seemingly frequent occurrence--i had no way to pay. what we agreed was that, upon arrival in darjeeling, i would get cash from an ATM and give it to my driver who, on his next pass through pelling, would deliver it to the hotel. (they ply those routes with regularity and everyone knows everyone else.) we wrote it all up with our respective signatures and proper stamps (it being india, after all, we had to have "official" stamps). it all worked out, as seems to happen in india, in its own time, in its own inexplicable way.

Nope, just an ATM!

BTW the mountain never came out when we were there...a few days later at Yuksom, but not Pelling.

Sarah.

Pelling ATM

Yes, I saw the ATM, used it, and even got money out 03/08
The ATM is located at the crossroads in Upper Pelling where the jeeps go to Geyzing.

BTW if you can manage it go to Geyzing on a Sunday for the market, share jeep from Pelling20/- one way, Sat market in Darap is not worth the trip , sadly my opinion only
